The "best scenario" isn't really the best scenario. You will confuse a whole bunch of non-technical users by including more than one web browser. Then Microsoft or Apple end up having to support whatever browsers they ship so it becomes the

I've used Firefox since the very early days (Phoenix 0.3) and I can honestly say it could never be described as a "fast browser" - before Firefox I was using Opera which was much faster and much more lightweight. If anything, I would say Fi

To be fair here, a more accurate comparison would be people saying the same thing about the $500 Palm Foleo, a similarly limited device which was crushed by negative press and relative limitations compared to its launch rival the Eee PC.

Wow, that's one of the most pretentious paragraphs I've ever read. I mean, let's use the exact same argument, swapping television for books: "In the last 25 years or so, we actually got something like a pop culture, similar to what happened

The idea behind OpenID is great. The user experience of using OpenID is so bad that even as a technically-inclined person I can't work up the motivation to use it.

NTFS does indeed support both symbolic links and hard links in recent versions of Windows, and they can be created with the "mklink" command-line utility. (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NTFS_symbolic_link )

Back in 1989 a proposal was written about organising information within CERN for the "LHC era". ( http://www.w3.org/History/1989/proposal.html ) There's some irony that twenty years later you're able to use the very technology spawned by th

Android sales are almost certainly increasing faster than development cost, so I doubt that's the issue. The likely reason is that Android doesn't yet have the critical mass behind it to make development profitable and Gameloft overestimate

The @font-face spec doesn't mention a font standard, and Microsoft have already said they won't implement TTF or OTF because the font foundries don't like it. It's possible that IE will implement the upcoming WOFF (Web Open Font Format) sta

I disagree. There is no deadline, especially not in a market where people purchase new phones every 18-24 months. I can see Android's sales continuing to trickle upward as prices drop on phone hardware, as companies use their brand loyalty

You'd think that, but the whole Novell/SCO affair proved that companies can pay $150m for something with neither side fully understanding what was sold.

Opera's UI is still pretty clunky (it's improved, but not enough), they've never built the enthusiastic community of Mozilla or have the brand recognition and products of companies like Google or Apple, and its USPs have gradually eroded ov
