There's a big difference between competing with another business in a market on a level playing field (e.g. Android vs iPhone) and essentially deciding to ban another company in a sector from competing with you (e.g. Admob vs iAd). I think

I have wondered this before too. I can think of a few reasons why this might be the case: * US phone operators charging for incoming calls and messages, which make prepay phones much less useful. * Standardisation on GSM in most of the rest

I believe they deliberately removed vim from the default install since they felt that it wasn't suitable for a desktop-oriented operating system. It can be installed using via optional packages ('installoptionalpackage' in console).

Perhaps this suggests that people were looking at HP's purchase of Palm in the wrong way. HP are the biggest computer manufacturer in the world. While I'm sure entering the phone market is a bonus to them, if they think that the iPad is a s

I doubt there are many buyers who would want to enter the smartphone business as the underdog with a custom OS at this point. One big exception would be RIM, whose own software is looking increasingly dated. They might see Palm as a way of

I'm not sure how you can be so confident that the regulators will conclude that Apple doesn't have a monopoly if investigated by regulators. This can be far from obvious. In the Microsoft case, it was decided that the operating system marke

I'm surprised that no-one has suggested the obvious: that The Art Of Computer Programming Vol. 4 - Combinatorial Algorithms is complete. But that's no fun, so I hope it's something truly earth shattering, like Knuth getting an e-mail addres

Sorry, but I don't really understand your post. The fact that an idea is old doesn't mean it's outdated or useless - the patents in question cover functionality that is a major part of Apple's TrueType file format, and FreeType was using an

Perhaps Wakemate learnt from the late-release PR disaster and have decided it's better to offer pessimistic worst-case-scenario delivery estimates and over-deliver than to offer over-optimistic delivery estimates and under-deliver.

Personally, I can think of a few advantages. Duplicating 2 or 3 lines may seem like a minor problem, but having to change those 2 or 3 lines every time you make a change quickly becomes a maintainence burden, especially when they're littere

Two half-decent reasons come to mind. One is teacher familiarity. Many people have used a variant of BASIC before, whether in 80s home computers, via Qbasic or VB on PCs in the 90s, or via VBScript in Office. This may make potential teacher

Compare render times between Netscape Communicator and IE and you will see that Netscape tends to be considerably less efficient than its competition. Doesn't mean a decent browser couldn't be salvaged from it, though.
