I think that the Twitter analogy was awful. It implies that you have to have an incredibly large team writing Java to be "enterprise", somewhat implying that Java is needed to handle load. It isn't. Facebook is a great example of a company

Very few will be this tenacious, so if you have a startup, don't get your hopes up unless the pool of workers is really desperate.

Inevitable, yet I still shudder as I think of the possibility of Skynet (self-aware technology removing humans from the equation) or cyberterrorism/cyberwarfare. If everything is connected, nothing is secure.

No mention of Disney's role in shooting stars off into oblivion? They find talent, use it up, then push it off on its own where it very often ends in rehab. It could be a coincidence as many other stars that didn't start in Disney ended in

I've accidentally used this feature a number of times, and it drives me nuts. The greatest feature about Gmail that not enough use is 2-factor auth (even though it is not limited to Gmail- other web-based mail services provide it); it is a

Different universes in mathematics play by different rules and have different components. Inter-universal Geometry is how these sets of rules and components can relate and is the bridge to understanding more complex theory.

Way to go! Good turnout, too! It makes me sad that all the HN stuff typically appears to revolve around SF and SV area, though. I feel left out. I think the problem is that PG and YC are on that side of the world, and the rest of us get scr

Man, that is some pretty crappy music. Good effort though. Algorithm needs more theory. Good music isn't that random. You are missing phrasing, repetition, rhythm.

Life is about action. Being "not dead" to me suggests not being done with what you do. To live without action is not living, but I guess you are "not dead". However, to fully embrace being "not dead" means you still need to do something. Wh

Agree that actionpack is a mess, but I don't like all of these new projects separate from Rails. If they are going to be versioned with Rails, just put them in rails/rails.

The two problems I have with Scala are: (1) it tries to be too much by allowing optional types and the clarity of the code suffers- either embrace duck typing or don't, (2) Play v2 killed all chance of it becoming a decent web developer's g

Rails-api isn't a new project, and the name of the project is misleading. It provides a no-frills controller. Why is this is another project and not part of actionpack?

I agree about the page-turning buttons. That is why I didn't get the touch and won't get the paperwhite. I don't mind not having backlighting, so I'll stick with the cheapest Kindle.

I think it would be a much better idea to have people give in the beginning, but instead of asking them where the money should go, tell them that their name will be included in the next release as a contributor on their site and in an "Abou

Good post. I've been doing this for many years now though and I've been burnt out after maybe the first 4-5 on coding, but that is still what I do. It really is about the money though. Early on I had the idea that I would become an architec
