I found it to be more comfortable, so I stuck with it. If I could do it again though, I’d swap between the two as I learned as I’m now rather slow with qwerty.

To what extent is this simply working around the weirdness of x86? Do these improvements apply to something like MIPS, ARM64, or RISC-V that have inherently simpler ISAs?

For me, the big difference is apps. I have a Quest and there's not much usable stuff for it. I can see a lot of those ipad/iphone/mac apps as useful on an AR device. Quality also matters. I don't really like looking thro

It didn't work well at all in my experience. Given how much code was thrown out rather than ported, I'm guessing that I'm not alone.

Things were more complicated than that with Reddit from what I've read (and from a now defunct blog post they wrote not to mention various talks and interviews from devs who were there at the time). Their devs were using Macs in 2005 w

Go is actually a competitor with StandardML and loses badly in every way except having Google's deep pockets to carry it. StandardML uses a far superior Hindley-Milner type system. It has pattern matching. It has Option types for good

The rest of the world has. If you're going to use .net, there's almost zero chance that you'll get permission to use F#. For whatever reason, C# devs seem incredibly resistant to even just looking at F#.

I blame a lack of tools. JS devs have been transpiling for years now and it works. Python should have released a conversion tool that could automatically convert most stuff and identify the stuff it couldn't convert. This kind of direc

Reddit could have switched to a paid Common Lisp variant without any trouble if they'd actually had issues. The people there said they moved to Python because that's what the other team knew. I don't see a reason to argue oth

I’ve seen the programmer battles over programming paradigms in years past. They’ll pick inferior tech simply because it’s what they know. I’d argue that alternatives to C/C++ exist, but they aren’t so C-Like, so nobody wanted to try th

Naughty Dog only switched because they were bought out by Sony who then demanded that they change languages. Reddit was merged with another YC company. That company used Python, so they switched everyone to Django. Last I knew, most of Redd

It's the Reddit story all over. Lisp devs know Lisp + X, but everyone else only knows X, so we'll use X instead -- even if it's inferior and causes issues down the line. This isn't really limited to Lisp though. It appli

I actually think it's a lot more about initial training. and corporate sponsorship. People would rather die/retire than change how they program. The assembly guys died/retired rather than learn structured languages. The imper

Historically, you couldn't use ANY of them as object literal keys without risking problems. I believe it was an oversight. JS has reserved a really long list of keywords that have been around for a long time.. I've seen this occas

Yet another incident of Greenspun’s Tenth Rule. Lisp macros make adding HTML syntax easy. You won’t find anyone using string templates in that language because a handful of macros means you can just program like it’s just lisp. Strings such
