You shouldn't unless you want to use the new open source standard for telemetry. You won't benefit from simplicity or performance improvements. It would be quite the opposite. You can check what is the actual cost of open telemetr

Nice blogpost! I saw GrafanaLabs provides similar dashboards for exploring cardinality on their Managed Service. VictoriaMetrics also provides ab built-in CardinalityExplorer UI https://docs.victoriametrics.com/Single-server

How is it different from running a Prometheus server then? Prometheus is monolithic as well. It is cool and not cool in the same time. With monolithic approach, the process becomes very simple to run and efficient at the same time, since th

Monitoring is a pain because we need to monitor more and more complex things. And not only that. Mostly, the problems described by OP are connected to the scale. So the main source of the "pain" is the volume of data we need to pr

It consists of 6 separate components to run, plus 4 additional optional components [1]. And I don't even count 5 additional caches [2]. How is that "simple and easy"? [1] https://grafana.com/docs/mimir&#x

Correct! It is a TimeSeries database for storing metrics. It is open source, including clustered version, and contains many additional tools for alerting, collecting and visualizing metrics. There are many in VictoriaMetrics community who s

They also said those patches with extra limits aren't going to be accepted to Prometheus repo. That's sad, people with the same issues would need to look for alternatives.

Grafana seems to be the most popular so far. But as it develops, it becomes more and more bulky and complex. https://github.com/perses/perses seems to be a very promising one.

1.1K pull requests but only 760 commits to the main branch, ~300 of which are made by dependency bots. I'm not saying Grafana isn't doing anything. Just the numbers you provided are a bit misleading in representing their work.

So does it means you need to specify rules for all unique logging operations you have? I was under impression that the thing can do it automatically... In a runtime based on receiving repetitive logs or something like that. If it doesn'

I'd recommend taking a look at VictoriaMetrics: open source monitoring solution. It doesn't support logs collection, but for metrics is just great. Disclaimer: I work for VictoriaMetrics.

I think those benchmarks vs TimescaleDB require an update - a lot of things changed since the last test. However, even then VM ingestion rate was 11 million/s on 32CPU instance and this topic says TimescaleDB ingestion rate is 3.1 mill
