There are some jobs (for example as referenced elsewhere hedge funds) where employees have knowledge that could be directly damaging to their former employer if it were taken to a competitor. For example, other Fund X has a huge short posit

A friend of mine was a bike messenger in early 2000s NYC over the summer, and quit before the summer was out because he'd been hit by cars twice. It's such a shame as NYC's density, weather ~9mo out of the year, and elevation

They're fundamentally B2C because the hardest part is getting the consumer virality engine running. Once the consumers are there, the B2B part (eg the ads engine) is relatively easy. I won't say trivial, but I would guess literall

My coauthor and I run staysaasy.com which is entirely unmonetized (technically negative since we pay for some hosting and assorted services), although we've met some investing / advising opportunities through it.

Yeah we're definitely able to do those things, it just seems weird to have the content living in two places and I'm not sure if that will present some sort of other issue for us down the line.

Yeah, I'm always worried about the fact that Substack won't let you set up canonical URLs back to your blog, but we aren't really SEO optimized anyway so maybe it doesn't matter that much...

Discoverability is a huge challenge... I've considered moving to Substack because of their discovery mechanisms, but I don't like incurring the platform risk having seen the way that applications like Medium have changed over time

It seems completely crazy that they'd need to pay him $600m of equity at signing. Like why not close him with a package of (say) $200m? Even if he was making $5m annual TC at Google, that would still be 10x his comp in equity alone.

The most interesting part of this article to me (from mid-2021) is the view of the world's most valuable startups: - ByteDance $140b - Stripe $95b - SpaceX $74b - Didi $62b - Instacart $39b - Klarna $31b - Epic Games $28.7b - Databrick

I think that that's very possible, and I completely agree with you on the phenomenon. There are also few limitations on your ability to talk your own book in the private markets which further turbocharges the hype cycle.

I think it depends a bit on the job trajectory as well. Getting promoted several times in 10 years at a company that grows and successfully vs. a flat career trajectory at a company with flat growth tells a pretty different story.
