I found that basic courses on relational algebra more useful than most text books. They seem to introduce the mathematics in a more clear concise way than most SQL books.

Mostly rewritten because they business needs change. Software is there to service the business not the other way around.

I would say that the threatening to quit because they don't take you seriously kind of re-inforces their view point why they don't you take you seriously in the first point.

Not saying its a key part. Im in the camp you better have a damn good reason to use inheritance that composition will suffice. The whole notion that everyone has their own perspective on oop makes it a mute point.

Both simual and smalltalk inheritance was added later in the languages history. Yes its optional but it doesnt stop people making a mess of things when they categorise their objects based on data type instead of behaviour
