Where did Facebook say that "cost of living" will impact salaries? At Google (where I work) salaries vary a lot based on location but cost of living is not part of the equation. It's based on the cost of hiring in the market

Someone once told me this is called being "matador-ed" because it's just like pulling the cape away from the charging bull. I love that term and the Android share dialog has always been my top example.

Notion is just a fantastic piece of software and the team seems focused on making it better and cheaper at the same time. They should be unequivocally congratulated for this and I wish them more success. Also if you ever change your mind o

Google pay varies by office (quite a lot) and they're upfront about it but it has nothing to do with housing costs. It's based on the cost of hiring in the local market. I am voluntarily transferring from Google SF to Google Lond

I strongly agree with this quote from the article: "What bibliophiles really fear isn’t the disappearance of books but the elimination of the time and space needed to enjoy them." I absolutely love reading books but it takes a rea

Life expectancies were longer than people think back then. A lot of times we see stats that are dominated by high infant mortality. If you lived to 10 you were gonna make it a while.

I have done plenty of serious reading on economics but as far as an approachable start, I don't think we can do better than this: https://economixcomix.com/ If you or a friend wants a crash course on econ, check it out

I am one of the maintainers of a popular Node-based CLI (the firebase CLI). This type of thing has happened to us before. I think the real evil here is that by default npm does not encourage pinned dependency versions. If I npm install is-p

Has any company ever raised more VC money and then produced so little? This has to be up there with Theranos, not sure if there are other contenders. Magic Leap is one of those companies where it seems like everyone (in tech) was rooting a

Soon Go will have both generics and package management, two things the maintainers really didn't think it needed on Day One. I don't say this to insult anyone, Go has always been a great and unique language. I say this as a plea

Congrats on a very cool idea that seems well executed. I rarely buy anything on an installment plan (never done it for a phone, etc) but for art it's for some reason very appealing to me. I think I will buy something from here. If I

Android has Instant Apps. Not sure how others feel but I hate it. Compared to a website it's slower to load, harder to share, and outside of my normal flow. I guess it would be cool for a demo but I dunno. Also iOS apps are so large
