Not to dismiss his points out of hand, but he is a chief at Nvidia, so I'd going to take his "multi-core won't work" statement with a grain of salt. SIMD and vector processors are great for some jobs, but certainly not for everything

Perhaps they are thinking of dumping their line of computers and going completely portable electronics?

Yeah I think they were pretty dumb to disclose all of the details of the story, they should have just taken it apart, taken their pictures, given it back to the seller and washed their hands of it. Telling everyone how they got it, who it

Um... it doesn't sound like they "fooled pirates" it sounds like they took advantage of the bittorrent protocol for exactly what it was designed for: distributing large files.

It's possible sure, it's not hard, Apple will just never want to do it. Just like Microsoft, lock-in is not something they want to avoid.

It's actually not about jumping through hoops, it's simple math. Doing a command in a terminal is O(1). Everything is at your fingertips immediately and can be combined efficiently with everything else. Doing something in a GUI is O(n), you

Yeah it's definitely not my premise that art = emotion + entertainment, that was the GP. I would, however, divide art into "art that is/can become enjoyable" and "art that cannot be enjoyable (but may be thought provoking etc)". I'm definit

Visual art is distinctly different from music. It's possible to be entertained and feel emotion for visual art that is not a photorealistic depiction. Music, meanwhile, has certain rules that need to be obeyed in order for people to want to

Well he is being pretty misleading about the issues surrounding price fixing. Yes with physical goods it causes shortages and surpluses, but with eBooks the entire argument is bull. The amount supplied is exactly equal to the amount demande

Being in the right kind of company helps Stimpy in this tale. Some companies have a set pecking order, and changing processes that have been established by a higher up just brings down the fire on your head. In these companies Ren would loo

This was actually the first application I thought of when I first heard about uzbl. I'm wasn't knowledgeable enough with elisp etc to implement it myself, but I'll definitely be following this project closely.

I think it would be a humongous stretch to say it's defacement. The server client model is the important factor I think here. A server sends data to the client to display in a manner it chooses fit. If a browser chooses not to request cert

I actually did pretty much the same thing. I had a solaris account at school and ended up filling half of my space on the server with gnu utilities because I didn't feel like learning Sun's "almost-right" utilities. So many of these apply t

I think I subconsciously had the same opinion as Michael, but reading it out loud makes you consider how dumb the idea really is. Do I think python developers are stupid just because it's easier to program in than C? No of course not. Elit
