If Litecoin is anything like Bitcoin, here is a good explanation: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Why_a_GPU_mines_faster_than_a_CPU...

It's certainly a point of trust, but ultimately it's the miners who decide how Bitcoin works. So far this has predominantly worked by them using software from bitcoin.org and upgrading it relatively frequently, but this would prob

Bitcoin definitely favours the merchant/receiver in this aspect. Escrow can be used where desired, though it probably won't make sense for all everyday purchases (escrow for a cup of coffee over the counter is probably a bit overk

There are probably many reasons; this post on bitcointalk lists most of them: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=313806.msg3367122#ms... (I know this forum is pretty bad in general, but I like that specific post.)

Same here, because they noticed I am "engaged in https://github.com/playframework/playframework" . I've not even tried Play, let alone been "engaged" in it. Really unsolicited.

You're supposed to pay to a bitcoin address included in their press release, and then notify them about this. For a major NASDAQ-listed company, this approach seems startlingly half hearted.

I'd like to see the reverse in airports: Land in some strange country, immediately get local currency for bitcoins.

I had the same reaction, but it's pretty cool that the "official" bitcoind regression test suite works on this implementation.

I'm pretty sure Tor does smart peer profiling/selection to optimize for throughput. Lots of people run Tor relays on their silly little home DSLs and Tor still works.

The larger issue here is that they "covertly introduce weaknesses into the encryption standards". It's not that they cleverly and fairly break encryption, it's that they sabotage the standards.

Of all his work I only know "The Last Theorem", which he co-wrote with Arthur C. Clarke. Unlike what seems like most people, I quite enjoyed it.

That's more likely to be reddit's vote fuzzing mechanism; any post with lots of upvotes will automatically get tempered with "fake" downvotes by the system.

It's not easy to do something like that without sacrificing decentralization, which is a cryptocurrency holy cow. It would easily become a competitive advantage to remove the charity cycles from the mining client.
