This is a nit but is there a better way to say “RDBMS databases?” It feels like saying “ATM Machine”. Could we just say “relational database” or “state of the art database management system?”

Ergonomics are important. Posture is important. The “text neck” is probably going to affect more people overall, but for people like software engineers who are sitting at a desk all day, you also need to mind your shoulders. If the muscles

As mentioned, there are some DEs like GNOME that “look good”, but to answer your question, I think it’s that UI/UX takes a back seat, yes.

I had an issue with OPNsense on a NUC with a USB Ethernet adapter where it would just like stop working. A reboot fixed it every time. I didn’t look much into the exact cause, I went back to DD-WRT because it’s what I know and it just works

Things are invented and the legislation to restrict it and for select people to profit off of it comes later. Pirating music from the internet used to be legal, or at least not strictly illegal. Internet itself was uncapped and only limited

Can you write a program though? Programs are generally “big”, we can safely assume one isn’t writing Hello World for their employer.

We did this at Allstate circa 2015 and it worked really well. I’m not sure how popular this idea was elsewhere in the company, but our team had all meetings on Wednesday (minus the daily scrum). We were remote Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and

The status quo as you describe it has persisted, it seems, for about as long as the role of “software engineer” has existed. I’ve often said that management treats software engineering as an assembly line and software engineers as assembly

I skip Season 1 when I do rewatches. As with all Star Trek series, the first season or two can be dull. Season 1 of TNG was terrible .

That I can’t run sudo yum update out of the box with RHEL is one of the big reasons I don’t bother with it. I love the “stability aspect” of RHEL but I love the I guess “convenience” of any other distro being ready to go out of the box, no

Big if true. I only know of a couple of SWEs who get high on THC regularly, and they both claim to not get high during work hours. I don’t use anything to aid in my work, be it Adderall or THC or alcohol or anything else… but if y’all do, w

Well they did address the “ship blows up” lever, which… it’s not fair to call it that, as though it were a self-destruct button, it’s a lever for controlling the orientation of the wings, since sometimes the ship is a glider and sometime’s

To me this is marketed towards enterprise, who wouldn’t flinch at paying even $2000 per computer. They would gladly pay it instead of the enterprise subscriptions to “antivirus turned bloatware” like Sophos or McAfee. The included wireless

I’m getting Virgin Galactic vibes. They’ve cut a lot of corners over there and they’re starting commercial flights this summer despite not having I’m convinced the most-safe aircraft. They’re out of money and they’re out of time. That’s wha

Well “in that regard” meaning the notion that you posed about the drivers having “caught up”. I can’t speak to the VR situation. So maybe the drivers haven’t caught up in every sense. I will say I recently threw away an RX 580 because it co

Would it be alright with you if an economist weighed in on the Fed’s decision to hold interest rates, or are they not qualified to do so because they’ve never sat on the Fed’s board of governors?
