And before this there was correspondence learning (i.e. learning via snail mail). Many technologies have been pitched as being transformational for education. Often they have some impact but don't live up to the hype.

And I'll add that my main feature request for Pocket is its inability to grab data behind some paywalls / PDFs. I want my data in this one place because I want a uniform way to read and highlight. I've developed a workaround

My alternative to catching up on longform articles when I don't want to read them on a screen is to just use Pocket's text-to-speech functionality and go for a walk.

The docs were probably better than they were for the NES. Nintendo's were poor translations from the already sparse Japanese version (think of an entire book full of the Engrish found in early NES games). Australian developer Beam Soft

In the US you still do some reading aloud but it's very limited. Certainly it's not common to have a class on rhetoric. One of my hobbies is quizbowl, a type of trivia competition. Quizbowl questions need to be read aloud with spe

I find the bookshop.org model a bit weird. There's no real reason that independent bookshops need to be part of it, apart from a marketing angle to court people who want to "help local bookstores" over Amazon.com. From a rece
