This seems like a pretty limited viewpoint. We could all be coding in assembler still but generally we find value in using something higher level. Does that make us all dumb?

Well you've changed the assertion a little bit there. I shared that one particular technical innovation shifted the mix of jobs towards more skilled jobs. That doesn't say anything about any individual person of course. Your state

I'm not so sure. There is a Planet Money episode that talks about the effect the digital spreadsheet had on accounting employment: > Thanks to spreadsheets, there are 400,000 fewer accounting clerks than in 1980, but 600,000 more re

I'm not saying there isn't a disparity but a comparison like this would need to include taxes, maintenance, and utilities on top of the mortgage to be comparable to a rent (well utilities may or may not be included).

Could you clarify what you mean by "renew"? That sounds a mortgage with rates that are reset every five years, which doesn't sound like "fixed" to me.

What are "capitalism laws"? My point is that the government is preventing the transactions. Doesn't matter if we are talking about a republic, a parliamentary system, a monarchy, a socialist country, authoritarian, feudal, l

I've been convinced lately that we have no collective agreement about what the term "capitalism" means any more. Yes there are text book definitions but none of those are used in typical public discussions like HN. Power ten

You need competition, which means you need developers to add more housing units, which means you need to change the regulations that prevent that from happening. Problems in real-estate are almost always government created IMHO and not &quo

I fail to see why unions need to be brought in to this issue. Not every problem needs to be framed in the form of class struggle. Exactly what sort of "union" would represent tenants? It just seems like a unhelpful way to discuss

I never took it to be about organization vs chaos. For example, if a team is responsible for two modules of an application they are less likely to create an API because the modules can communicate directly inside the application (i.e. monol
