I don't think everyone learning a trade is viable for a number of reasons, there are plenty of jobs that can be done, should be done. Trades are great jobs. They are not for every single desk worker right now. So some extremely fast na

That might be accurate, however it is not just financial right? I would say that is the bulk of it though. To the self-worth side of it, someone posted below, but humans tie self worth to their profession as well right? That is probably som

I don’t know I truly don’t. I don’t have any answers. Because you might be right. Especially for commercial art. Just the same as climate change, I don’t see any solution. It all gets worse and worse for everyone involved, except a select f

It really sucks to be compared to a horse. It goes to the mentality of this that gives me such anxiety. I understand to my boss I am just a cog (horse), but damn… a bit of compassion would be nice before I’m turned to glue.

Damn. Why the downvotes? This is probably one of the best HN posts I’ve seen on this topic. It cuts right to the point about the problem with SV and Sam Altman types.

I don’t disagree, but my question still stands. Besides every single desk worker learning a trade. What else can we do? Right? We are saying the same thing. You are right nobody cared when it upended a lot of translation. You are right peop

I don't really like this view point, respectfully. It reads like "learn to code" except now that it is coming for programming as well. Perhaps the new slogan should be learn to plumb. Your point about climate change is apt, j

Agreed, however I'd like to add it's not just art, it's a lot of other facets of the dawn of the LLM(s). Unfortunately I don't see a slowdown in talking past each other. It would be really nice to sit down and rationally

That’s not really an option for a lot of people outside of the US. The average SWE here makes 50K USD a year. Good luck saving up a safety net that large if AI is ready to take all our jobs. That’s kind of my point. Nobody has a good answer

Thanks for the reply! I don’t know what the future holds. The country I live in will even just on the job train more programmers if need be. It is kind of nice in that sense. If what you say is right? Then for the most part everyone is happ

I guess my genuine question is to the people who are saying this is a big deal and it will take our jobs. I am a bit lucky to where at the moment I am working in a "novel" field. Lets say though for the sake of argument that AI do

I deal with a bit of anxiety for a number of reasons, that I personally work on. I have a background in control theory we even used early neural nets in my research. I’m somewhat familiar with how LLMs work. With all that said? I get mini p

Genuinely curious, what does it mean in this context to perform better? (hopefully that doesn't come across as snarky as text sometimes does).

I would ask you. Can you define a woman? Let’s make it less heated, can you describe a chair? I can’t easily at least. Is it something you sit on? Does it require legs? To define a woman is equally difficult. Take some time to think about i

I don't think there is anything Marxist about the current "Liberal Arts Education"... As well as, at least in my observation a lot of people I know who graduated from philosophy, and arts are good critical thinkers. I am not

It’s been so strange to see this shift. I’m not sure if it’s true or not but it’s how I feel. He sometimes will just say stuff out of the blue. It makes me wonder what is hype, and what is real.

This is fascinating, it’s a bit refreshing to see plain text for normal people. I can’t be the only person with extreme anxiety reading Sam Altman’s twitter and wondering if my career choice was the wrong one some days. It would be nice to

I do get the sentiment I will say. Like when I first got a job as a SWE all I did was CRUD apps and they are all fairly similar. Then I worked on wordpress for a while and it felt even worse. For about 6 years now I've personally moved

While I don't disagree with you largely. What a really nasty way to say it no? It's true a lot of what happens is boilerplate API calls and copy pasting of solved problems. AI is making that happen a lot faster, however the parent
