XMPP MUC also has the problem that the largest XMPP client, Google Talk in Gmail, afaik does not support it. It handles multi-user chats via some proprietary method that only works for Gtalk clients.

California's laws state that IP can only be contractually assigned to the employer if it is "related to the employer's business or [to the employer's] actual or demonstrably anticipated research or development." Google's position, when I wa

You are right on the money. Starting a startup while working for Google would be an absolute non-starter. Any code you write, they own (within certain restrictions that end up being so broad as not to matter.) And moonlighting in a business

This smells funny to me. From everything I saw when I worked at Google, Glassdoor had the salary range right. For all the guy's self-deprecation, if he was really making $250k, even after bonus and stock, he must have been promoted multiple

I think all the options there ignore the _very_ _very_ obvious fact that popcorn is _not_ a competitive market, because most of the consumers in the market don't know the prices! If you disagree, try to recite for me how much popcorn costs

I am one of the people listed in the acknowledgements at the end of that paper, for having done work on Dapper when I was at Google. It's nice to see HN taking an interest in it -- Dapper is a very cool system.

Interesting. It still worries me to see it in the "Windows 8 Platform Integrity Architecture". Are you not worried about it, or just pointing out that it's not relevant to the topic at hand?

I found something that concerns me a lot at the "announced" link at the start of the article. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/b8/archive/2011/09/22/protecting-the... If you look at the diagram, it appears that Remote Attestation is being brought

There's no such thing as "a story submitted on multiple subreddits". Any submission is associated with exactly one subreddit. But an upvote there also counts as an upvote towards sending it to the frontpage.

Unfortunately for your Slashdot submission, it's hard to get people outside Google to take the gagging seriously, because of course people who are inside Google won't talk about it because they don't want to be fired. (And those people insi

How are you finding this out? I can't imagine PIPs would be advertised widely... (I'm immune to all this because I quit between RNCH and the Plus launch.)

As someone who does not eat breakfast, I imagine it's to avoid the kind of response I get when I tell my host I don't eat breakfast: "Oh, are you sure? It's no trouble? It's good for you! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Why

Do you have a cite to a case or good reference for this? I've heard it before, and it would be nice to have a source for it, in case I ever need to rely on it.

Googling for the quoted text in the review reveals that the original source appears to be the website of a competing product. I cannot find the article in Science which is supposedly referenced but not cited.

I almost believed you, until I ran through this version of the problem, and realized that, if I know Monty always opens the lower-numbered goat door, it actually gives a completely different result. In particular, if I pick door 2, and Mont
