Its patent number is 8,126,832 and its issue date is Feb 28 2012. Related application 60893237 has no patent number or issue date, is that what you are looking at?

A lot of the people that live near the stops in downtown San Francisco may be pretty poor, but I think most of the people using BART at those stops don't live there, they just work there.

I think the author has the "frost zone" theory backwards. It's not that it's too cold for rocky planets to form outside the frost zone (after all, there are some planet-sized moons out there) but rather that inside the frost zone it is too

You are exactly right. Saying "there is only an 8% chance of this happening with a fair coin" is something completely different from saying "there is a 92% chance the coin is biased". The author is utterly clueless when it comes to probabi

Don't worry too much about it. It's vastly more likely that it's actually their change policies that make the increase impossible.

Not "could be". It's a total fantasy. Real world chimps wouldn't even start beating up other chimps for touching the ladder before you start replacing chimps.

It's folklore, based on a misunderstanding of the concept of entrapment. Learning exactly what entrapment means may be worthwhile, but cops lying about being cops does not constitute entrapment.

It's not at all clear from the story why or if having multiple recipes "mate" works better than just using one recipe and fiddling with it.

What's the subject of the previous sentence? "eat". Words used as words are nouns in that context. Like the word "eat". Like the word "word". When something is eaten, someone or something is doing the eating, eat" do

It's funny that this is so popular, because I think it is probably the single most counterproductive thing written about software ever. Seriously. As far as I can tell, the only point of speaking about the poor oppressed "verbs" is to screw

I would disagree with "cleave" also. "Cleave from" means the opposite of "cleave to", but I would argue that that's because "from" means the opposite of "to", not because "cleave" means the opposite of "cleave".

No. Every business has a risk element, but what makes this gambling is that there is no good or service being produced. It's a game of trying to outguess the other players, with one trader's gain being another trader's loss (relative to mar

If the point of the field is just to make ie work correctly, wouldn't it be more appropriate to leave utf8 out of the name and write something like "ie=💩"?

You can do much worse than "data" for a variable name. A name that gives no clue as to what the variable is isn't nearly as bad as one which gives a misleading impression.

Apparently everything Apple did was no big deal, since someone else would've done it if they hadn't, but somehow that line of reasoning doesn't apply to Google.
