Similarly, I have thought about writing something, but lack of time and engagement have meant that I've never got around to looking at it. The interface works well with the Twitter clients I've used, usually involving showing a co

Useful information, thanks. I've followed your account, though I'm finding it hard to get into using Mastodon. A means to show the oldest unread Toots first, and to sync this across devices/web, might be helpful.

Indeed, this summary seems fair. I've been keeping a profile up to date mainly because I thought that potential employers might look me up and probably think me too weird if they couldn't find me on either Facebook or LinkedIn. I

A disturbing thought - it would be difficult to put my usual sticker over the front camera if it's under the screen.

How much use do you make of Bing, if you don't mind me asking? Is it a case of mainly using it (as you are a Microsoft fan) but occasionally needing to refer to a Google search?

Do you see much smoke during the first few minutes after lighting? After it gets up to proper operating temperature then the combustion should be more efficient, with a lot less smoke visible, but as it warms up it could be belching out a l

I suspect that's one of the ones that runs on certain sorts of solid fuel, such as this: https://smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk/appliances.php?country=s AFAICT these still require chimneys but presumably the smoke they prod

Perhaps when such stoves are readily available for home use, and the time comes to replace the old one I've got, that might be worth doing.

My house has a stove. Perhaps I am simply a poseur for having one, but it does get the most-used room in the house up to a comfortable temperature whilst the rest of the house can be left cooler to save on central heating bills. The house w

I get the newest at the top and have to scroll down to see what I've missed. A client that acts like my Twitter clients do and saves my place, allowing me to scroll up from there to see everything I've missed, would be excellent.

Agreed about the customs officials - travel to the US is no longer pleasant. Concerning government officials, for a few years I lived in the same town as the prime minister of the UK. I used to see them walking about town or in shops, somet

Excellent tale. It is sadly unsurprising that users get so upset about software they don't pay for. If I may be permitted a brief comment, I recall several years ago a situation where we received complaints that our rather computationa

Such applications are not necessarily a problem - take a look at this Android one, for example: https://github.com/julian-klode/dns66 In any case it should be up to the owner of the device if they wish to do this sort

IIRC one could use Google Now with voice recordings off and the extra-spying setting of "web and app activity" off (though web and app activity had to be on for many features). All this must now be on for the assistant, as you say

Annoyingly, Apple recently removed the means to block such tracking from apps as well: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apple-cracking-down-on-... I went back to Android so I can continue to do that, as well as usi

I keep hearing that there may be problems with Apple Music, such as replacing local files. Having quite a lot of content which is ripped from vinyl I'm hesitant to try it. Have you had any difficulties with it?

The ones that seem to take up most time and effort are: Historical fencing (inc. teaching, wrote a book as well), target shooting, living history. These require some reading of sources, language study, and so on.

Definitely agree on the downside. Another problem is that such hearing protection doesn't work very well against the human voice or similar sounds such as throat clearing, sniffing, etc.
