This particular point was rather annoying, and involved working around it in this manner: Me: "OK Google, navigate home" Google: "You need to turn on web and app activity." Me: "OK Google, navigate to $NUMBER $STREE

Recommendations, algorithmic timelines and so on are indeed a bit of a nuisance. Similarly, Google Now is annoying me a lot at the moment but I can't use my watch fully without turning it on.

This application appears to do pretty much what you're suggesting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pingapp.ap... Unfortunately, my colleagues insist upon using Skype instead of email, apart

Absolutely. Telephones are an enormous nuisance for exactly these reasons. I have found Cyanogenmod's built in call blocking to be essential; I have it set so all calls from withheld numbers and all that are not in my contacts are bloc

Alerts are my primary reason also; the only time I do any vigorous exercise I certainly won't wear a smartwatch due to the risk of damage, so that functionality isn't of much use. I don't want to wear a watch in bed or in the

Does anyone know how permissions would be handled? There are some Android apps I'd like to install on a Chromebook but I certainly don't want them to get access to my contacts.

Interesting. Do you have a reference for that? I'd be interested in more information about what search information (amongst other things) they keep.

I've switched to DuckDuckGo and "paused" various activities within my Google account settings. Still, I can't help wondering if records I've deleted there are simply my copies and they have their own backups stashed

Indeed; a common response I encounter if I complain about Facebook is along the lines of "I don't see why it matters that FB knows stuff about me, and I think I get more value from them than they possibly could get from me for the

Viz magazine ( http://viz.co.uk/ ) recently did a strip wherein a thinly-disguised Enterprise and crew are obliged to beam up Captain Thomas T. Cook and his landing party in the face of danger, but his messages requesting hel

I suspect that the reason they are so low paid is because it is a job that can be done with the minimum of training, and so it is easy to find replacements.

Same here. I have avoided Slack at work so far, but since colleagues are using Google Hangouts and Skype as well I end up using those. Usually the former, as I always have a Gmail window open and often forget to open Skype.

Can the various fitness monitoring functions be turned off on an Apple Watch? I always exercise without wearing a watch and so the health tracking features are not something I'd want to use.

IIRC this only affects Cyanogen OS and not CyanogenMod. http://www.androidcentral.com/difference-between-cyanogen-os... So, you should be able to avoid Cortana by using CyanogenMod instead.

Indeed, there's still a case for car ownership even if one doesn't enjoy driving. One reason for preferring a car over a bus or taxi is the ability to transport luggage. I frequently find that I have to undertake round trips of 20

Oxford is indeed pretty bad. I have to live ~20 miles from the centre, and even then it's not cheap.

I am also rather perplexed by it. Once, I had a similar call from a member of the public, an irate rant along the lines of "your software broke my computer and what are you going to do about it?" However, it wasn't software I
