What is this constant rumor about that Google killed XMPP federation? I think they killed the XMPP support in their own clients, but in general they still provide the service. I've at least three active @gmail.com XMPP accounts in my r

Having started originally with Threema before I gave in to WhatsApp I kind of like the trust levels they established in the UI. Might be an improvement for the WhatsApp UI to downgrade the trust level visually in case of unexpected key chan

I once thought we migrated most of the instant messaging world to Jabber. Now on the desktop side of things a lot of stuff switched to Hipchat, Slack, Skype and what else. On the mobile side of things we see WhatsApp, Threema, Telegram, Sig

Depending on the contract they do. Often enough it's the GSM modem paging someone for alarms that holds a SIM with some old corporate contract that has no flatrate. And you'd violate the contract if you exchange it for some privat

I think there was some rumors that they are - or are planing - to offer certificates signed by a private Cloudflare CA exactly for the purpose of encrypting the traffic to the backend.

Maybe availability but as long as you generate the private key part and paste your CSR on the website they can at worst revoke your certificate. So from a security perspective they're not worse then the others.

They lowered that to 10 lately. I was also surprised but I guess they pissed of others in the biz. Usually I see it limited to 40 by the comercial options. On the server side you've to make sure you run a decent nginx/apache with

while I in general also disagree with the whole CA thing one has to admit that running a CA is not for free. That setting up the auditing, buying a HSM, running the interfaces and so on. And last but not least running the CRL/OCSP infr
