The person's birthday is immutable and can't change. The age isn't a mutable property -- it depends on what time we're comparing their birthday to. So it should be computed by a function as he himself says. The val not b

This was already true for the US as well. You can't fly with a laptop battery larger than 100Wh.

Looks like this is related to https://twitter.com/cyberomin/status/835888786462625792 , which is a bit different. So nevermind.

Does anyone agreeing with this tweet know what bubble sort is? It's fine if you don't but if it's explained to you it should be pretty trivial. It's like saying "why should I have to write fizz buzz for an interview

This happened at FarmLogs once. Our bug tracker started getting some really weird exceptions due to a Chinese company reverse engineering our app with the frontend code, which had our API key in it. We didn't really mind; it was just f

I agree. How often do you need to change your RDBMS? Hopefully never. And how often do you see people wanting to rewrite everything in a new language or framework? A little more often. I think many developers are just not as comfortable wor

I also think that's how mobile databases for offline apps should work -- sort of as distributed slaves. If only the backend server has the authority to create unique ids, you end up juggling a complicated set of client and server based

Yes, it's not breeding for yield that makes them tasteless, it's breeding to make them hard so they can move through our industrial supply chain.

Not that i love REST, but for an app that needs to work offline, boring ass REST is a pretty straight forward way to sync the mobile and remote databases.

I feel like I've read an article like this every so often for the past 10 years. I run Linux on my laptop, but it's often a pain in the ass. To be fair though, all operating systems suck in their own ways.

Coffescript is a powerful language meant for beginners, but you really need some experience with it to understand its quirks and that a lot of it should be avoided. So basically, it's JavaScript with a compile step that doesn't d

Even if it is internal, you're just making things harder on yourself if you go against convention for no reason. Most client networking libraries have abstractions built upon those conventions. Like jquerys $.ajax: it returns a promise

I hope and feel like they'll back kotlin when it hits 1.0 regardless of what happens here. We can't be stuck with a half assed java 7 on Android forever.

I majored in econ, and could not agree more. Economics is a social science: it's the study of social behavior under constraints. To any reasonable person, that doesn't sound like something you should try solving with an equation.

From what I've seen, Java's GC is smart enough to clean up circular references. That actually surprised me. The main danger I've seen in Android is that there is a lot of passing around Contexts as a dependency for accessing

What's makes that better is that Homejoy is rated 2.7 on glass door. To be fair though, I don't have an account on there so I couldn't read past the first page of reviews and most of the negatives were contractors.
