Yes we're all collectively paying for poor software design by having to compensate with excellent hardware. That should tell you that "good" software is really hard to make but "good enough" software is not if you h

No engine product ready for purchase or no engine that could ever be built? If the former, whatever tell R&D to go do their job. If the latter, maybe it was a scam. Which is it?

What did you have to rewrite when upgrading from .NET 3.1 to 6? If all you had to touch was ASP.NET startup changes, that's hardly 1 day's worth of work.

It seems you had a bad time learning ASP.NET, but in my experience what you're asking for is not difficult at all. You have to: 1. [Optional] Define a DTO that deserializes { "foo" : { "bar" : "baz" }} to

I agree with your analysis, but I don't think that's how most people interpret global compute power consumption. The stored energy in the gasoline is not counted in global energy production figures, but the electricity used to pow

Software isn't the only field where practitioners get promoted to management, but it is one of the fields where technically incompetent managers and executives will kill a company with unsound decisions.

Drivers have no better option. It's easy to blame them as if they had the myriad employment options software engineers do. They don't, and the opportunity/operational cost of gig-work is not obvious or easy to overlook when y

This and other stories reinforces my belief that Kolmogorov complexity in software is a real thing(tm) and cross-platform GUI tooling will never be good enough to avoid having to write platform-specific code.

Yes I think it is possible to ship dotnet applications and packages as apt or other image formats. What I would do is to put the Nuget package inside the deb package, extract it into the local Nuget cache, and then let Nuget discover it as

There is no immediate problem with building from source, there simply isn't much of a benefit to doing so. An assembly compiled with different optimizing C# compilers will be virtually identical assuming the source files are identical.

IME (and I worked at Microsoft previously), Nuget and MSBuild have decided that application developers should have full control of their dependencies and that system administrators can override these things but not easily. I understand that

I don’t think it would be wise for apt to repackage or recreate Nuget functionality. The initial install of dotnet should be done by apt, the packages should be handled by Nuget.

Better reject those ISO8601 timestamps if they don't have time zone specifiers too! In one case, I wrote an API that rejected anything that wasn't in UTC time just to make everyone's life equally uncomfortable.

2 points establishes local linearity, not global linearity. f(x) = x^2 looks linear if you take any 2 arbitrary xs, add a third and you can no longer draw one line that intersects all 3 points.
