I posted an example. y=cuberoot(x^3) and y=x should give different derivatives at x=0 in, I'm guessing, all autodiff approaches you'll get your hands on.

It's good to question what we teach. Like I never learned any methods for computing a square root, to arbitrary precision, whereas my parents did. But autodiff doesn't replace symbolic differentiation. Consider the derivative of c

I thought about using `[]`or `indexOf` as examples of operations, but my question still remains: what is implicit about it? It's part of the public interface of `List`. Not at all like the private members of an object, which I think wa

Unless your camera is a 3CCD camera, then CCD cameras usually have lower color resolution than luminance resolution, too! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three-CCD_camera https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki

The process seems fairly DSP intensive. If I recall, the IQ modulated color signal would leave a dot pattern in the luminance signal. I wonder how many frames it could process a second, if written in BASIC.

One thing missing from this rethinking, as far as I can tell, is names. You can't move pointers between different processes in general, because each process has its own "memory address namespace". But an absolute path generat

I don't disagree with you, but I think your statement is roughly like: all ordinary composers are writing music theory, or all ordinary language users are doing linguistics. Math is a way to add structure and understand the activity th

Thanks to distributed version control, you can commit all sorts of trash in your own branch while figuring things out. These commits should not clutter the project source, though if you like hoarding data like I do, you might still preserve

The same trick is used by some oscilloscopes for high-time-resolution sampling of periodic signals. I wonder if they also average the same phase-out shift multiple times to reduce noise (improving the bit depth of a single frame).

C also doesn't have a standard package manager. I think that's the big problem. Built-in functionality is less important if you can easily use packages.

Do you mean they are simpler to use? Because those are just models of parallel computation. A little like saying Turing machines are simpler than python.

I understand and appreciate striking a balance between precision and a good story. But I thought in this case, perhaps this was a big deal. I thought one of the reasons why 2D graphics and 3D graphics are so different is because of ... is i
