The field of "human sciences" is slippery. Economics, as a mere example, aims to be a "real science" and there is "good and solid research" but, nonetheless, the results are under our eyes. I will not try to ask why this happens, many epist

Interesting, but I don't think that this concept applies to the "civil law" countries.

You are somewhat right, but there are two faces in Apple being the super middle-man: 1) the good fact that it is "fair". The underdogs leave to them the same amount of money of the big brasses (30%). Any application starts the same, and you

I reached a good compromise with Xcode and its dreaded windows management using Witch < http://manytricks.com/witch/> . At least now I can have cycling through the XCode windows with a list, better than, as the author says, try to u

I've been countless hit by programs crashing because I'm using an accented character. It is really easy to think "I'm not using unicode strings there"... until an user uses unicode characters. Enforcing unicode is a good thing, whatever eng

I find interesting that you assume that disparity within nations is caused by differences in intelligence. While this is true (i.e.: differences in intelligence make a difference, sorry for the joke) there are many, many, other causes for d

True, definitely true. What the difference is, IMHO, that with iPhone and AppStore a single individual can develop something in relatively easy way and have a very good distribution channel. The toolchain is reasonable and Obj-C is fun (wel

Well, if you release in public domain you lose any right, AFAIK. Someone could step over, take your code and have intellectual property over it. You don't forfeit your property of the code with BSD licensing. IANAL, of course.

Solaris is way better than AIX, and a Power port is half done (historically there were a Power version). I don't know really, but IBM could choose to drop linux or, my hope, merge solaris and linux... this would be terrific, if backed by a

Wonderful! I always dreamed of programming phones in HTML/CSS/JS. This is a great step forward from C/C++/ObjC. Joking, of course... but this seems to me the way for trivial apps, given the constraint in a phone-sized OS. I hope to be wrong

The "myriad of tax forms" can be very, very nasty if you're not american. Documentation is confusing and I can assure you that the forms are not so understandable, if you're not a native speaker. The docs on apple site say to apply for a 'T

You can learn Objective-C in about 5 hours, true (probably less, if you know C and C++). The point being that Obj-C without NSObject (and cocoa framework) is not a big deal. The "good things" come from cocoa and Interface Builder. And you w
