I don't think that there's anything wrong with writing code itself, but perhaps apply it in a different context, e.g. robotics or computer vision, to actually make a contribution.

See http://journal.darkskyapp.com/2012/kickstarting-part-1/ . Essentially, it might be easiest to just buy copies of the app as gifts for each backer, but there are some caveats to consider.

No -- it looks like they set it up as Fixed Funding (as opposed to Flexible Funding) and won't get the money unless they reach the goal.

FWIW, I'm using Zoho and it's working quite well. If there's a catch, I haven't found it yet :)

I thought this looked really familiar -- and cool, I remember bookmarking it to download it on my computer -- so I went back into my saved stories and found the "Show HN" from about 6 weeks ago. Original discussion at https:/

For what it's worth, pg said that "crawlers are disproportionately bad for HN's performance because HN is optimized to serve recent stuff, which is usually in memory" (at https://news.ycombinator.com/item

This has been discussed before -- see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5955043 (for the discussion) and https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5955374 (for Matt Cutts' comment).

I have the beta, and as of right now they aren't - the effects are only for the wallpaper.

I can second MiniHack. I'm using it right now and it works really well. It's also incredibly well-designed.

I'd actually really love this as an iPhone app. Any plans for something like that?

HackDesign ( http://hackdesign.org/ ) might be what you're looking for. It offers these weekly lessons, with interactive content, feedback, and the like.

Balloons.io ( http://balloons.io/ ) looks pretty similar, and it's open-source as well ( https://github.com/gravityonmars/Balloons.IO ).

Don't Quizlet and StudyBlue (among others) essentially do this (and more)?

TextMate 2 is awesome. I compiled it from the source on Github, so it was free, and I love the little features (like auto-indenting HTML tags and autocompleting brackets and the like) and the language compatibility and plugins.

OpenShift and AppFog are two PAASs I've used that both support Rails. Their free tiers will be more than adequate for a personal website.

Thanks so much for your detailed feedback! I'll try to address it point-by-point: > You should disable selections on these since they do not actually drill in anywhere. I'll definitely do this in both the calendar and schedule views. &#

Thanks! My school uses Google Calendar, so I'm using the Google Calendar API with AFNetworking to fetch the events. Tabule looks cool, too :)...

Not really - before, the policy was that a student could have a phone on them, as long as they weren't using it. I had to present to the principal and pitch it to a district committee before the policy was changed. Even now, students are al

Thanks - it looks cool. However, at this point, iDMS is supposed to be an organization tool, as opposed to a note-taking tool. It's meant to replace these agenda books that we get. Again, thanks for the link. I'll take a look at it...

Hi everyone - I'm an 8th grade student. I recently created iDMS for the students at my school. I've also created CiteIt ( http://citeit.mihirgarimella.com ) and a handful of other applications. I know it's kind of useless for everyone else,

Looks great - nice job! I'm 13 and I've created a node.js command line app ( http://gtmtg.github.com/view-test ) and an iOS control ( http://gtmtg.github.com/MGDrawingSlate ) among other things, but none of them are nearly this advanced...
