In Australia, C# feels more popular than Java. I used to take on freelance projects in both and had far more work in C#. I agree it'll pop up more with "evangelical users" though, 100%. I've often thought that when you

For me these efforts feel like a solution to a problem very few people have. People who want a portable computer have settled on laptops. The people who want a portable computer, which needs access to a screen, keyboard, mouse and desk, jus

Not in the US, but I exaggerate my use of AI to the CEO because he has fully taken on board the idea that AI can do everything, except presumably his own job. I do use AI, but I make out it's a bigger part of my workflow than it is t

It may be hard to believe, that is considered a major reason for the baby boom. People were happy the war was over, happy to be back with their families, The GI Bill made people optimistic about the future. There was PTSD of course, a lot o

100%, if my gf made half as much money as I do, I'd be happy to do all the housework, literally all of it.

Aren't Lenovo M70q just small PCs? Or are you running some sort of thin client software on them?

I'm in Australia too. I feel a lot of Australians think the government is more mollycoddling than it is, it's hard to think of an actual policy in Australia that is outside of the norm of the Western world.

Nice, what thin clients are you using? After Sun Ray, I tried an Axel one, but never really found a use case for it.

Great to see. I used them at my work almost 20 years ago, I had one at home too for easy access. I later got a Tadpole Comet Sun Ray laptop purely for nerd reasons. With modern network speeds it's interesting to consider how good a thi

Yeah, he's not that guy. He's sort of a dreamer, he thinks he's going to invent the next Salesforce or something with practically no investment.

I am in a mixed spot. My direct manager is good, competent and we get on well. The CEO is pleasant but incompetent, if he gets involved with a project directly, he'll make it worse not better. For me, it's a balance, if I'm s

Really hard to imagine a use case for Swift outside of Apple platforms. It's a good language without much library support anywhere other than Apple platforms.

Agree, this is almost always where the benefits come from. You get to write v2 of the software with v1 to learn from.

I wrote a small app in REBOL once, just too automate some stuff for some managers in a job about 20 years ago. It's quite nice, but I don't think I'd want to write anything significant with it.

I used to work near The Barbican, and have seen it many times, it's beautiful, I would have loved to live there, but couldn't possibly afford it.

Agree, I grew up in the UK too and people don't say "Queen of England", even littlest Little Englanders I know don't. I get that in the USA they seem to have grown up with notion of a "Queen of England" and i

That's the thing, she wasn't Queen of England in the same way Trump isn't President of Texas. The Treaty of Waitangi might use that term, but it is simply incorrect, even if they are well educated. I'm going to make a gu

This is a really good point I hadn't thought of before. How come LLMs always claim to understand exactly what you mean with no clarification or context? It's sort of immediately ridiculous that these LLMs could replace real people

DI exists in Go, but it's not ubiquitous like it is in the C# or Java worlds. Last time I used Go, I used "wire" for DI and was pretty happy with it.

I think this is exactly it. My gut instinct is just "Why the obsession with adding static types to Python, just use a language that already has good static types". As you say though, not everybody gets to choose their language, an

I use Copilot a bit, and it can be really, really good. It helps me out, but in terms on increasing productivity, it pales in comparison to simple auto-complete. In fact it pales in comparison to just having a good, big screen vs. battling
