FWIW, I would often query a database and make completely de-normalized datasets that I'd paste into Excel. Then I would pivot the crap out of them and figure out how I wanted to slice the data...

The issue with this is that Excel refreshes the active workbook by default after every change. Any quant or someone dealing with huge sheets of formulas learn that you can change this behavior to default to refresh via shift+F9 (I think)

While listening to the (IMHO) uninspired Jaydiohead album, I thought it would be neat to create an automated system for creating and rating remixes. 1. Upload a ton of music to serve as seed data 2. Run a beat rate algorithm 3. Mix the voca

Have you looked at Fluther ( http://fluther.com ) at all? They're building something of this nature (but w/o a specific hacker slant). I know they're planning on releasing an IM interface shortly along with an API.

Haven't used the app, but 2 things: 1. Would be nice to support login via openid. 2. I've been using a Highrise to LDAP proxy with moderate success with Address Book for OSX. I think I'd rather see that sort of integration with the address

Seems like a compromise on Google's part would be implementing something like: http://openid.google.com/username Standard URI, and would forward you to google to login as normal.
