My cousins use a black roof with water pipes just underneath to absorb heat on sunny days, and circulate it down to a giant insulated basement water tank that functions as a heat sink. They then use that to supplement their heating system.

I’ve got three files open right now. One is calculating contract rates based on hourly, weekly, and monthly contracts and various discounts. One is a list of RFPs, contacts for them, and their status. One is costing out a few options for a

Actually, Moore's law says nothing about speed, just the number of transistors you can stuff into the thing. Plus progress has been leveling off.

If you’re a woman, almost certainly. If you’re a man and don’t have a homemaker as a spouse, probably. If you’re a man and have a homemaker as a spouse, then only as much as you choose.

Heh. I’m just curious, and the answer might affect my decision whether to use something like this, but you have a point.

Fwiw, this is by Jane Jacobs, author of the classic “Death and Life of American Cities”. She was decades ahead of her time in thinking about how to make cities livable and appealing.

Plagiarism and copyright violation are not the same thing. Plagiarism is an ethical offense but not a legal one and isn’t limited to direct reuse. It includes using ideas (even in your own words or representation) without attributing them

Nope. The serif fonts of the earlier versions are easier to read on a high DPI screen; and the extra margins on this one make it far too narrow to read comfortably on a phone.

You could. But there are enough people out there who are ignorant about copyright that you’re less likely to end up with violations if you include it.

I find it useful to write out a workflow of things the code will need to do from a high level. Ex: “Validate form input” or “filter API response based on submitted criteria” Those become doc blocks for functions and classes. Then I break th

Most of this advice is exactly what I’d give. I wouldn’t go as far as jacket and tie on day one, but definitely arrive dressed a full level more formally than you will most days. Button down and chinos rather than t-shirt and jeans. Blazer

This is awesome. But nobody’s going to buy it if they have to drive it sharing the road with hulking SUVs. It’s nearly as dangerous as a motorcycle simply because it is so small and light. The only advantage is protection from the weather.

It might not be. But we can’t count on that either, given that shorter timeframes are common for many coronaviruses. It would be very foolish to act yet on an assumption that immunity lasts years.

We still don’t even know whether immunity to this lasts more than a few months (as is common with other coronaviruses). So it’s premature to talk about herd immunity regardless.

There seems to be a through-line that the whole thing is related to clotting and coagulation. That basically it's not destroying lung tissue so much as preventing the blood from properly absorbing oxygen from the lungs.

In densely populated areas like much of Europe, a half hour drive is considered a pretty meaningful distance. Plus a lot fewer people have cars than in the US.

A lot of these differences are simply due to underreporting because people aren’t being tested. We really need to be looking not at confirmed case rates but at rates of death above the average for the time of year.
