Docs about code should go in code. That’s what comments and docblocks are. Function signatures should be self-documenting. IMO API documentation is self-defeating for a small team because of how quickly it falls out of date. Docs about desi

Why host it on anything more complex than S3? You don’t need a “real” server for this. The most you need is a cheapo $2/mo shared hosting account.

I agree that making the change is preferable to reimplementing. Just saying you can’t assume that an old and battle tested codebase is an ops problem rather than a dev problem. There’s going to be some point where you’ll be glad to have ori

Seems like someone familiar with inflection points in floating point representation could pull an Office Space-style skimming scheme against a floating point based system by perfectly legal means simply by making a lot of transactions of ca

I’m just saying that from an ROI perspective, doing this for Staten Island but not Manhattan seems short-sighted. Also, the bit where hundreds of frail elderly people were stuck on upper floors of high rises without water for about a week.

There’s absolutely a market for data analysis on a contract basis. For instance: a startup that doesn’t have enough work for a full time analyst indefinitely but needs to pull together a whole bunch of reports over a month or two to support

Staten Island shields Manhattan from some waves. A wall protecting Staten Island from flooding doesn’t protect Manhattan at all, tho. And as we know from Sandy, Manhattan and Brooklyn are equally vulnerable to flooding — and far more cost

Do you want to invest, or to gamble? At your level of available funds, investing in startups is gambling, because you can’t spread your bets widely enough to hedge them and increase the likelihood that gains on one will make up for the loss

Side projects are a crapshoot, and as @jakobeggar points out, have way too much lead time to revenue generation. Your most reliable option is probably freelance work. It sounds like you can put in about 20 hours per week. If you can get a s

Still too easy to tune out; too difficult to go backwards in; impossible to skim. Personally I just retain it much more poorly under the best of circumstances, and stop paying attention at all for minutes at a time under the worst. But othe
