".. represented by two separate yet equally important groups ...". Cue the Law and Order intro in my head. I like it.

Seems like the shares have only given back today's gains so (for now) I guess the market isn't too concerned. China coming back online should help with the supply chain issues.

I share that curiosity! Temporal looks great and is proven. Running it looks simple enough. I mean getting their self-hosted version deployed (to production). I was reading through their docs and that does _not_ look simple (to me). Plus th

I was recently looking for a simpler alternative to Temporal ( https://temporal.io/ ) so this could be ideal. If you could add instructions for self-hosting it (_sounds_ like you just need an Express server, but I would guess

Impressive! But I guess the trade-off of having all that power is the potentially terrifying cost. As you detail in the post, AWS Lambda comes with a default throttle (1000 concurrent) which can be adjusted. Is any throttle/limit like

Microsoft was a small beat but the stock's currently down, presumably on the slower growth in Azure.

I guess in the short-term, fire even more people to cut expenses. I recall they were planning to let 20% go. Longer-term, I guess hope to be acquired?

Exactly. They know what they are doing. And calling out the crazy inevitably repeats whatever they were saying, giving it even more publicity and them attention.

Thanks, I agree batching inserts would indeed be a good idea and it makes sense that's recommended. However that link you mention (as of now) does not specify what a write unit is. So if that could be clarified, that would be great. Si

Checking the pricing, $0.0125 per write unit. It says each write "generates one or more write units". So ... $1.25 per 100 writes? That can't be right. I wondered if it meant writes per second (like how AWS DynamoDB or Azure

That's true but Fly's PaaS is perhaps more comparable to DigitalOcean's App Platform (its PaaS). For that, DO include 100GB for free while Fly include 160GB. Beyond that, DO charge $0.10/GB while Fly charge $0.02-$0.12&#

I agree about Aurora Serverless pricing! Yeah, I think this new thing would be less useful for Lambda as that does support TCP connections. However a HTTP API is required for e.g Cloudflare Workers where you can't create a normal MySQL

I believe it does. From their pricing page, beyond the included quota it is $1 per billion reads and $1.50 per million writes

This is great! Potentially the missing piece in the world of "serverless": a serverless SQL database accessible over HTTP with no minimum price. I saw AWS Aurora has a Data API but currently that does have a minimum monthly cost.

True, it should be no fee for egress _bandwidth_. But yes, some form of egress fee (because of the fetch/get operation).

You are correct, that would be another example of one of _its_ drawbacks. They certainly promote "No Fees for Egress" and "No egress charges" (home page). But yes, whether that actually is the case depends on your usage.

I haven't used it either but it certainly sounds like it's open to anyone to use. As @chc mentions, it reads like you use a Worker to control access. So you can make your files public by simply not requiring any authentication. I&

The margin on bandwidth is enormous. I think Cloudflare did some research into it a while back. But there are rivals providing cheaper S3-compatible storage at scale. Cloudflare's R2 ($15/TB, and no fees for egress). Oracle Cloud

Currently you can scale down to 1 in total, rather than down to 1 per region. But yep, scaling down to 0 will be even better.
