What do you think is needed in order to make a good web-based spreadsheet? Where do you think Google falls down at it? (I work on spreadsheets and find this very interesting.)

That's interesting, but you lost me on the connection to Heidegger and I would like to hear more specifically about what he took from Nietzsche.

This is great! I hate reading slides, but this has to be one of the best things I've read on the topic. Is there a video? It would be better if it talked about the good things to do in as much depth as the bad things. A gelled team com

I agree, that is a clever way to shed light on the problem. It's easier first to see that the host is giving you 999,999 choices for the price of one, and then see that the same logic applies when there are only 3 doors.

Thanks for the comment; I wouldn't have looked at the article otherwise, and it's great, both historically and as an explanation of the problem. The most helpful part is where she simply lists all six possibilities in a table. Tha

That was probably William Black. His usual point is that the lack of prosecutions is a result of the investigatory system having being gutted. He says that in the S&L scandal, his agency made 10,000 criminal referrals to the DoJ, while

Heh. When we have a variable name with a question mark to denote a boolean, as in "ready?", we pronounce the question mark "what" like an old-school English gentleman—so, "readywhat", or rather: "Ready, wh

The biggest annoyance I have is that there is no way to do that for Reply. Why should Reply be different from Compose? They're both just sending an email. The whole thing is poorly thought through. Countless details seem off.

This is a bad argument. There are many illegal things a person can make legal by consenting to them. Is it hypocritical to both refuse consent and cite the law? (It's also inapplicable, since even if Russia consented, China wouldn'

That's an insightful comment and an important point. Because the underlying computation is physical, there's no such thing as side-effect-free computation. Any attempt to treat programming as purely mathematical, i.e. pure FP, is

My theory is that when typing code, I'm thinking entirely about the code and have no attention left to spend on how I'm typing it. I end up with countless typos that I have to backspace and type over again, often adding more typos

I agree with this post's use of the word "ruined". That's what the new Compose did. It's a usability train wreck which I'm astonished they put out at all, let alone impose it on users against their will. There
