Indeed. But sun is oracle now. So yeah oracle is to blame. They have literally fired an employee working on zfs for saying oracle should gpl it. There, one more reason to hate oracle.

Are there benchmarks to provide metrics on this ? Depending on the amount of garbage generated by the runtime the cost might be lower than in theory.

Care to provide the name of VC backed companies built around them? I do not know of any. Akka has some java shops using them. But I wouldn't call it a database. Ravendb...
