> Thinking of enlightening questions is often quite difficult. And this is a big piece of the problem with homework. Enlightening questions could be asked as homework, but various forces create an emphasis on quantity over quality. As so

I think there is plenty of reason to be concerned about tech giants and startup darlings being run without a moral compass by sociopathic leadership. But it seems myopic to focus your concern on their employees, who'll endure a tough c

You're right, I hadn't even considered the Fog Creek blog, but the article specifically talks about Joel on Software. And Atlassian's blog seems to be in the same ballpark as Fog Creek's: https://news.ycombina

That makes sense. I'd guess the main reason people use Bitbucket over Github is "free private repos," with "we already use other Atlassian products" a close second.

Joel on Software has 6 posts over the last 3 years. I'm not sure how long Jira has been winning (whatever that means), but it doesn't seem fair to say that Content Marketing doesn't work when the blog in question isn't a

If we're going to get worked-up over meat, there's no reason to jump straight to dogs. Over 100 million hogs a year are slaughtered in the US [1], compared to about 25 million dogs worldwide [2]. 1] http://www.thefarmsi

I was thinking along similar lines. Does anybody know more about the penalties for violating a gag order, like this? Is there some trick that could be built-into sensitive services like email, maybe some kind of per-account warrant canary?

Perhaps the visualization is just better this way, but your question is at least an interesting one to think about. How would the shape of the curve change, and might it suggest slightly different conclusions? For example, it seems to me th

If you presuppose that an entire group must win and the other lose, then there probably can't be a solution. Any real solution would prevent that outcome.

I was similarly turned-off. It's one thing to credit your influences, but this came off as name dropping with a side of social shaming.

I think the parent means the key server the bank exposes to CF is a new attack surface. If an attacker could impersonate CF and connect to the key server, they too could authenticate connections as the bank without having the key.

Yes. It's easy to argue that Facebook has changed the world, but that's not inherently good or worthwhile. We could stand to pay more attention to direction of the impact, not just the magnitude.

Don't think it's a browser issue. The text just doesn't contrast enough with the diagonal shadows in the lower left of the bg image.

This article seems to me to completely misinterpret the Experian study. My (and HuffPost's) reading of the Experian graph is that 18% of households with Hulu or Netflix have no cable TV service, while cabletv.com reverses it: 'onl

I'd just like to see more than 20 transactions at a time. I'm sure the sheer number of table rows isn't the reason it takes 6-10s to load the page! (Kudos to OP for mentioning the endless scroll.)
