Thanks. I'll take your suggestion to experience something different, although I find it curious that you chose to frame this as relationship advice.

Let it be known that your investment has paid off in, at minimum, a grateful reader and an upvote. The really scary thing is that I've noticed I'm having an easier time acknowledging that I'm boring than taking action to change that. I'm s

You might have seen this posted here before, but Reg offered an interesting one that certainly opens the door to other questions that may help or give you ideas: http://weblog.raganwald.com/2006/06/my-favourite-interview-q...

I've thought long and hard about this. I really do want to do this, but I don't know if I can pull it off. I'm afraid that I'll wind up like Antoine Roquentin from Sartre's Nausea -- a long world tour followed by disappointment and exis

I did get a Master's. I don't think I did it properly though, since I went there because it felt like the right thing to do, not because I had some great interest to explore there.

Thanks! I saw that a long time ago but definitely appreciated seeing it again. It was certainly helpful.

Thanks. I just finished the Meditations of Marcus Aurelius not too long ago, and it was sobering but refreshing.

Thanks for your reassurance. The problem is that I have evidence to the contrary. I have already started wasting time and not doing anything worthwhile. In any case, I don't see myself doing anything other than programming for a career, th

Excellent question. Something that makes a difference in the lives of real people. In all honesty I don't know any more than that, but I have a hard time believing that it's any of those things you mentioned.

I think you have described me well. I'm not bragging. You should be able to tell from what I've written that I'm not proud of what I've done in life so far. Is it wrong for me to prioritize getting some real stuff done over having a car, h

Interesting take. I have volunteered before, at community events and the food bank. It felt uncomfortable because I did indeed feel selfish doing those things. It's reassuring to know that this is completely normal.

Please. I know I have a fair share of problems, but you seem awfully quick to pass judgment as to this being one of them. Care to elaborate? EDIT: Let me just say that I'm in no shape to get into a relationship. I will just be dumping my

Maybe I read too much Hacker News, but frankly I find a lot of startups uninspiring. Social this, web-based that, yadda yadda. Again, I might just need an attitude change, or I'm wearing the wrong glasses.

Great! Now quit your job and take some time to just explore. I'm not talking about places; I mean thoughts, ideas, and projects. Sure, sounds great, but is quitting really necessary for that? I did say that I do have spare time now, and

As someone who has only dabbled in web programming and done webdev-ish work at a company that doesn't "get" the web, I was in shock to see how much I didn't know that was really the bare minimum: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/72394/wh

I learned to resist peer pressure and defer gratification early on. Sound advice, except I followed it to an extreme. Now I dress like a slob and have no motivation in life, and I don't even care.

"Good news should travel fast, bad news should travel even faster." Sure, but not in an environment where "shoot the messenger" is the m.o. I learned to keep my head down pretty quickly, and now I'm looking for an exit strategy.

Won't this just attract the slackers of the world to come live in Canada, or the part of Canada that tries this? If this is intended as a sort of experiment, it can only be done in a closed environment.

I wholeheartedly agree, but admittedly, partying may in fact be the main purpose for which some of these people are there, not the education. Ask the business school students whether they got more from their classes or the connections they

Wired is a geeky magazine with sensationalist headlines that nevertheless can be interesting most months. You make it sound like Reddit is a perfect fit for the Condé Nast family.

I'm having a really hard time reconciling the headline with the picture of the $2600/night Frank Sinatra Twin Palms Estate.
