Searchkick uses Tire under the hood, but provides a higher level api. Also, Tire is getting retired in favor of elasticsearch-ruby, so Searchkick could switch the backend and you wouldn't have to change your code.

You could try http://erlibird.com/ - I did beta testing for a few apps from there.

The only difference in this case would be that Varnish will always pass those requests through.

http://ascii.io/ does the same and was around for a while, but showterm's text selection works better.

I can confirm this, we're replacing at least two disks every month. You really have to design your architecture that allows a server to be taken offline for a few hours for disk replacement. Also, never use raid 0 on Hetzner.

This is most likely a mistake on their site. The i7-920 doesn't even support this much RAM. For >32GB it has to be some kind of xeon, maybe sandy bridge E.

We're planning to do this eventually, but we're focusing on EU right now.

We're not saying that Shelly Cloud better than Heroku in general, we're just pointing out that focusing on one language has it's benefits. There is a market for generic solutions like Heroku, and specific ones like Shelly Cloud, Nodejitsu,

The tests were ran from a Hetzner server against Shelly Cloud and Heroku EU, so that shouldn't affect the results. We are however targeting EU customers, we have servers in EU datacenters. We have plans to expand to the US later.

By keeping the test apps simple, we limit the app code's effect on the results, and show the overhead of the providers' infrastructure. You're welcome to fork https://github.com/shellycloud/baseline-performance and provide a better test.

We support all Ruby frameworks, not only Rails. We believe that by focusing on Ruby we can provide better service than we would if we had to support multiple runtimes and application architectures.

To run redis, you only need to pay for the virtual server and storage, that's why it's not mentioned separately in pricing. You can run all non-replicated databases (postgres, mongodb and redis) this way.

I'd love to see a 'phusion passenger for background tasks'. Managing large amounts of resque workers is a pain.

Most rails apps are deployed on linux. I doubt there are any popular gems that depend on OS X. The problem might be with gems' dependencies, but that's a problem with linux, not ruby.

That's really nice, but double-clicking a word is not obvious. Would it be possible to show the translate icon after you hover the cursor over a word for a few seconds?

I looked at OpenShifts codebase and I would throw this away after 15 minutes of code review. Looks like they wrote it in Rails because it was cool at the time, but had no idea how to build Rails apps.
