The full thread has a lot of speculation without basis in fact (eg why a given VC decided to invest in bsky), and the primary technical argument involves some theoretical issues vis-a-vis rebuilding the network if 25%+ of users decide to mi

Honestly I found starting my own mastodon server less work than trying to figure which of somebody else’s servers to use. I’m not sure as to the future of bluesky, but they are committed to having a distributed network, and have been before

I think it’s mistaken. You can run your own bluesky server, I’m meaning to get around to it but seems fairly straight forward: https://atproto.com/guides/self-hosting When I tried to install mastodon it downloaded lite

After 24 months of LLM code seeding very subtle and confusing bugs into production codebases, the cracks will start to show, and we’ll probably need to hire 2x as many engineers to unwind the mess.

Given the rapidly declining quality of search results, and the subtle hallucinations of LLM on advanced topics, I think that attitude is outdated. We’ve gone backwards in terms of the internet being reliable. Human experience is still usefu

Ollama is literally a signed .app, you don’t need to even use GitHub to install it. You may want to try it again if you haven’t recently.

I’m fairly sure they only exist because Larry/Sergei might give half a fuck if they killed it outright, and it has a small enough team that the cost savings for killing aren’t enough for Ruth to want to make that argument.

You gave reasons you built it, which is fine I guess, but what problem is it solving that I have ? Anything that requires a visit to GitHub rules out non technical users, and technical users can install ollama just fine with fewer steps

I find it’s now fairly common to call any article one doesn’t agree with or enjoy “ai generated” without any proof. The literal last place I can see publishing AI generated slop is el reg.

I once saw a news segment about people with photographic memories. They were miserable, they wanted to forget, but the worst days of their lives, as well as the best, were as through they had just happened. I came away quite glad I don’t su

The degree to which Google leadership is capable of fostering innovation of any sort is very much in doubt, but specifically in chrome all they are doing is re-arranging the deck chairs on the titanic while regulators and user preferences t

I’ve actually been thinking a lot about how LLM need to bridge the gap to symbolic reasoning and was very much waiting for something like this in theory…but this ain’t it. Looking forward to a more serious effort.
