Yes but that’s also pre-Sundar Google when there was some semblance of vision. Now that Ruth runs the company behind the scenes with a vision timeline that is measured in exactly 3 month increments…well, good luck.

They kill more than they allow to live, and doubleclick slowly hollowed out Google search by skewing incentives away from great content to maximizing display revenue via link bait. Doubleclick is to Google what McDonald Douglas’s is to Boei

I was actually looking at them as a GitHub alternative and their homepage has so much vaporware AI BS on it that’s as far as I got. Ironically I was very open to paying for a service, but the “AI AI AI!” lost them at least one sale.

You can also saturate your network link as well. I do like these improvements, but I’m old enough to know it’s always a game of “move the bottleneck”!

I have several local models I hit up first (Mixtral, Llama), if I don’t like the results then I’ll give same prompt to Claude and GPT. Overall though it’s really just for reference and/or telling me about some standard library function

That’s the wrong question. The only question is “is this price reflective of 10x performance over the competition?”. The answer is almost definitely no.

I consistently get significantly better performance from Anthropic at a literal order of magnitude less cost. I am incredibly doubtful that this new GPT is 10x Claude unless it is embracing some breakthrough, secret, architecture nobody has

Counter point: you’d see a corresponding exponential increase in QA labor, and just like with the web, Steam will be absolutely flooded with slop. So I see the most likely outcome is a lot of dogshit and Steam being forced to make draconian

Who knows, maybe they are thinking we’ll buy VMWare for $x, use the implicit lock in to extort customers until there’s nothing left in three years, get a tax write off, and pocket $3x.

Given how much of the web is ai generated slop now, I think going forward it’s even worse than you suggest. I have a copy of refined web locally so I have a billion pre-chatgpt documents for my long term use.
