Funny-- the first Nest thermostat prototypes were also built with acrylic and wood. (I used to work there.) I always hoped they would switch back to wood, but it's incredibly hard to do right in mass manufacturing.

Nest has a huge staff for what it currently sells. I thought something similar. And then I worked there for a summer. Building hardware is much more difficult than you think, in ways that aren't immediately obvious. Someone l

I don't really care about what was said and what wasn't. PG was probably misquoted. Whatever. What bothers me more is that damaging PG's public image is seemingly what it takes for him to prioritize writing an article about f

Do you know of any hacks to minimize spending? I ask because given the funding climate right now, it seems foolish not to raise more capital on great terms. It's especially true for first-time founders, who don't have an intuiti

It depends what they want to hack. Since you're saying "drone" I'm assuming you want them to be autonomous in some way, and not just traditional RC. When I was working on Tacocopter, we used 8-CineStars from Quadrocopter

This is really cool! Are you building both the mail provider layer and the UI? (Not clear from the description.) Are you running your own mail relays? I've actually been working on a new email platform with some friends for the past fe

Yeah, I'm certainly not meaning to belittle your efforts. I wrote something similar (based on jamesjyu's gmailr stuff) for my thesis last year. It's the best way to do it for relatively simple one-off projects. The first big

Unfortunately this type of hacking isn't really sustainable. Even small tweaks to the Gmail UI often change the DOM in very unpredictable ways. When they released the new compose feature, pretty much every single Gmail Chrome extension

There's still a bit of civil discourse left in HN. :P Both Founders Fund and DFJ seem to take larger bets. I wouldn't count on AngelList to fund the next Fairchild.
