Puts an entirely new spin on Catholics in space. :) I'll go ahead and second your recommendation. A thoroughly enjoyable read with several really great concepts.

The Vorkosigan Saga is pretty run-of-the-mill space opera stuff, as far as I've seen. It's got a sort of an interesting premise, but it definitely smells of your early 1900s central European cultural setup (at least initially). In

Absolutely. I played and read Halo related material before Ringworld, and it's the reason I even bothered reading Ringworld in the first place. Definitely enjoyed both, though I felt the first Halo book trilogy was weak the first time

Ah, well that's a shame then. In retrospect, if I have thought of it, the people whose actual job it is will almost certainly also have thought of it. But thanks for the excellent info and lovely ascii graphics. :)

For more stationary projectors, couldn't you just make a larger LED array and focus the light through a lens, rather than try to do cram super bright, and presumably expensive LEDs into a regular bulb sized package?

Those damned glossy screens. I can't for the life of me figure out why they ever caught on; glare is extreme on them, dust and fingerprints might as well be completely opaque, and actual physical defects (scratches and such)? Game over

There was a Nokia, and they're practically all Windows phones, no?

By that logic, Windows up until 98 was also a command line application. Doesn't really add up.

They used Motorola CPUs all along, but they kept doing so in the face of their diminishing (relative) performance, THAT'S what I was trying to point out. :) AAPL bailed and went with Intel as we all know. I can't help but wonder w

To be fair it doesn't say she handled them all, and furthermore hers is only one file among thousands being made available. Otherwise yes, it would be a terrible risk.

Arrogance, plain and simple. I'm not entirely sure it's warranted, but it brings Apple to mind. They, too, experienced a massive slump... but at least they recovered. Funny thing is, it seemed to be that Amiga would be making a co

Meanwhile I get 3-4 days on my Galaxy S5 (which can be further increased with their "ultra" power saving mode). Battery life has come a LONG way (again) in recent times. I'm almost back to feature phone levels and I can hones

I can't say with absolute certainty that it's called this across the entire country, but in my part of Sweden it's called "spunnet socker", which translates to "spun sugar". Certainly seems more appetizing

This strikes me as a toddler-specific Ashens (sans dry/sarcastic humour and the iconic couch of course). I watch Ashens regularly, so in a sense I can see the appeal. Yet this woman's content still baffles me.

Far from exclusive to them though, and it seems to be (/have been?) a very common thing for IM clients to do. I can live with it as long as the devs put in the appropriate options for the behavior you want, but I'm not happy about

I might as well take the opportunity to point out that there's a new Shadowrun title (from last year) that's being continually updated and features a complete map/campaign editor for anyone to use.

Thanks for the tip! I went through my entire cookie list (accessible from the Firefox options dialog) and went from hundreds of domains to ~10 whitelisted ones. I was baffled to see how many cookies I had stored that I didn't even know

It took me a solid week to wean off the worst of my habitual falling back on the GOOG. Then another couple of weeks to double check the results side by side when I didn't find something on DDG that I fully expected Google to find for m

Another anecdote here, but I jumped the GOOG ship long ago and apart from a very minor bump (adjusting to DDG) it was painless too. Sure, for a couple of days when I was unhappy with results I went back to Google, but they were no better. A

And there's Vim Airline being maintained by bling too, purely in vimscript, if you're not a fan of the mainline Python version. https://github.com/bling/vim-airline/
