Why are you fine giving away control to more surveillance? I don't see what is laughable or reductive about the argument. Yes, I work in tech, but I generally prefer tech that gives people power, not take it away.

I don't even like it in theory: a company with a surveillance business model now giving rides on autonomous vehicles they control. I have no problems with self-driving in principle.

I think you might catch a butterfly or two in some games, but it's rare. I agree these nature environments often feel totally dead in games. Same with nature sounds. Devs usually get a bigger boner simulating wind and contact physics o

Sorry, I didn't mean for my comment to sound too harsh. I just dislike these "lost art" or "what your doctor didn't know about" style headlines. I appreciate that there are people working on graphics/GPU p

The lost art? Shader programming is very much relevant to this day. Many of the statements in this post are also either incorrect or inaccurate, no need for the sensationalism. And like somebody else has mentioned below, WebGL 2 adds comput

Sure, you draw the line at different levels of abstraction, but you still need to rewrite from scratch the thing you're learning. If you want to learn how a web server works, you better write one. You don't need to write the OS th

Sounds like confused deputy and is what capability-based systems solve. X should not be allowed to do Y, but only what the user was allowed to do in the first place (X is only as capable as the user, not more.)

Negotiating TLS handshakes is one way. But I'd imagine the rest is largely IO-bound like you said. It still puts into perspective what a big pile of dogshit consumer software has become that stuff like this comes as a surprise. Also, t

That sounds like learning something only very superficially. Rewriting from scratch is the only way to really learn any topic of non-trivial depth and complexity.

Not the expert in the area, but "classic static analysis" (for lack of a better term) and concurrency bugs doesn't really check. There are specific modeling tools for concurrency, and they are an entirely different beast than

That sounds like a fucking nightmare to debug. Like goto, but you don't even need to name a label.

Why? The point of antitrust is to promote market fairness. I don't trust YC very much, but I do trust they want a share of the pie. And they're not wrong that Google has monopolized and stagnated search. I think you're readin

This is something that I think about constantly and I have come to the same conclusion. While the idea of being able to trivially share code worldwide is appealing, so far it seems to encourage shittier software more than anything else, and
