You are right about the community, but many articles submitted to HN and many comments are also valuable in and of itself... it all depends on how he will execute the editorial part. What I am surprised about is when he says that he obtaine

Good luck with your initiative, it's the first time I hear about the idea to create printed monthly from HN content. What I think would be also useful is to not only reprint articles with some karma point threshold, but to produce complete

C++ can also be simple, if you define beforehand which constructs you will use from the language, and which not. For example, working with std::vector or std:string is usually much simpler than working with char* buff and pointer arithmetic

Nice work, but if I understand the article correctly, they basically modified the iPhone app with the similar functionality, not created the app from scratch (as the title might suggest).

I use the similar approach, with the main principle being that the family must not be neglected no matter what. As my daughter slowly grows, I see clearly that a neglect of not spending enough time with her for a longer time can't actually

Ok, but Schmidt's decision about China was a miscalculation, let's admit it. It brought a lot of problems for Google, and didn't bring them that much money. They weren't that much profitable there, despite quite a large market share.

jhancock, you might be right on this, but the problem I see is that your thinking is still within the Party line. Party says that censorship must be done, so everyone should obey the Party. But what I think Brin understood is, that it is j

But you forgot to mention that it is the Chinese communist party in the first place who blocks ordinary Chinese from obtaining information (and forcing others to do the same blocking). Let's talk about why Chinese netizens "can't have it al

I would object against naming HuffPo as a good example. 1) They are not profitable. 2) Quite a few of their articles are just rewrites of other journalists work. They read article in other media, and then re-tell it in their own words. Whic

Moreover, in the so-called "real" journalism, in many cases the reporter actually has to physically go somewhere to witness what is happening, and then the total cost of producing an article is even higher, in other words journalism work is

As I understood the staunch's complaint, it was not primary about "it's wrong to charge for content". Obviously, it is not wrong in and of itself. What is probably not 100% kosher is that you first create a service for free, then thanks to

I think the author could have gone further with his imagination. Yes, iPad will allow to display the formless content into different layouts, but that's hardly impressive...any e-book reader should be able to do that soon. Actually, the iPa
