The key is that you have to qualify it by repeatedly stating the word 'material'. There can be arbitrary amounts of psychological suffering that we trade for this material benefit and these are typically just discounted.

In no way does this stop people being 'the product'. For that to be true it would have to stop google amassing personal data on you, and stop them deliverering advertising to you everywhere. This goes nowhere significant towards

Many of the other recommendations on this list are similarly 'conservative'. Basically it's an attempt to reduce surface area as much as possible.

It's tied to the objective-c runtime to the same extent that other dynamic languages e.g. Ruby, are tied to their runtimes. That hasn't stopped them. I agree that the poor state of GNUStep and indeed the fact that it even tries t

You're right but Google continues to maintain that they are operating in a vigorously competitive environment. The minute they drop this assertion they will be the focus of antitrust investigations around the world.

That's for self driving car advocates to state, rather than simply raising the bogeyman of road deaths every time there is any commentary that detracts from their position.

Surely this matters only if Google's priority is to avoid criticism. If you guys believe in keeping end-users safe, it's a straightforward decision.
