$25 per resident per year is significant, $25M a year in a city of 1M. And how is this 'difficult'? It seems like it's a trivial software modification - certainly not $100,000 worth of work. I agree that it's a bizarre

If this is representative of Google's general approach to dealing with partners, then it should be fully exposed and prosecuted. Google has enough power and money not to need to act in bad faith like this.

So all processes that have been running for the past 200 years are sure to continue indefinitely?

Arguing that technology always creates more jobs than it replaces is as fallacious as arguing that technological progress should be blocked in order to protect jobs.

Just saying what? If you fine Apple $160B, then you have to fine Google a similar amount, since they are co-conspirators.

▲

True but it seems hard to argue that the amount can reasonably be more than all of the cash on hand, since the companies wouldn't have been able to pay the employees anything like that amount, so it can't reflect the market value

How would an amount that is greater than the cash of the two combined companies not bankrupt them?

Try comparing an original iPhone, and an an iPhone 5s, or an original iPad and an iPad Air. The difference is monumental. If instead of releasing incremental updates, there had simply been no intermediate steps, everyone would be blown a

So, no. Not a consumer app.

That's fine - the point is that in those cases the end-user is not the customer, so cost-savings trump user-experience.

Actual consumer apps, or in-house line of business apps for corporations?
676.
▲
by

Presumably that is the only one. Xamarin features it, but everything else they feature is an in-house corporate line of business app. If there are 'lots of great apps' out there, you'd think they'd tell us. Not encoura

It's funny - I have the opposite view having worked in C# years ago and appreciated that it was a lot more flexible and pragmatic than Java (as a language - libraries and platform aside). To me the problem is that it's not native

How is this not just a reflection of the fact that Risk scores include zip code as part of the calculus? The conclusion could equally well be 'As a distinct factor, neighborhood influences risk score by 1.5 points'

It may be a good move, but calling it 'Very Smart' seems like giving them too much credit given that it's really just returning to what everyone else does after the disaster of Google+

'Wise' seems a bit over the top. Generous and positive spirited might be a better way to characterize it. I am curious what such a representative could offer that would not be better in a produced video distributed by Apple?

The alternative you suggest would be better for a tiny number of highly sophisticated users, and a lot worse for most people. Also, I see no reason both shouldn't exist. Why not make the thing you want?
