It is a high risk business model to be entirely dependent on negotiating a license with a single vendor that you are competing against. For MongoDB there are vendors that will keep offering managed MongoDB. I talked with one that is open-so

Yes, some cloud providers readily suggest competing with them by making something better. In the end, the DB is still running on their infrastructure (required to keep the customer's latency low) and they are still capturing profit eve

Was that a DBaaS or a DB that you deployed yourself? I think many new databases are handling the concerns around lock-in by being Postgres or MySQL compatible. PlaneScale is MySQL compatible of course.

Haskell (a compiled lanaguage) has done hot code reloading with ghci for a long time. Facebook actually deploys in production by reloading. https://simonmar.github.io/posts/2017-10-17-hotswapping-hask...

Are there any plans to use an interpreter towards having a fast compile cycle. My reference point is Haskell's ghci which reloads changes very quickly (whereas the normal compiler is similar in speed to Rust).

It certainly doesn't have to be the case. The MongoDB layer can be used via the MongoDB protocol. TiDB is an entire MySQL implementation that any MySQL client can connect to which is built on top of TiKV (equivalent to FDB). If the goa

What about the speed of type-checking? Flow is near-instant by keeping everything live from the last check whereas TypeScript has always been much slower. Other than that aspect (which is very important!) I do think TypeScript is likely a b

This is a nice talk to explain what a document database is and how it is supposed to be used. Many think it is about not having a schema, but you could have the database enforce a schema in a document Database. Document storage freezes acce
