Power BI can connect directly to many database engines. Queries are generated on the fly by the reporting engine in a proprietary language called DAX, and DirectQuery is a technology that translated DAX into SQL queries. This is a mode of o

See my sibling. There is no Microsoft offering for on-prem Power BI. You can get close to it with sibling products on SharePoint. There is a third party offering an on-prem solution.

Microsoft is cloud-first in development now. There is a Power BI Desktop program that is 100% free as in beer available, which runs a private instance of an in-memory columnstore OLAP engine, Power Pivot (same internals as SSAS). It also in

Ah, but what RDBMS should that sqlfmt utility target? There are large differences. Here's one for TSQL. I find it very useful when spelunking through customers' almost invariably awful SQL. http://poorsql.com/

Talk to a Microsoft rep. There are several categories of Microsoft customers. One category is enterprises using Microsoft products internally. Another is software/SaaS companies using Microsoft products to develop or deliver a product.

I love this strategy. One thing that I like about it is that the volume of vegetables you'd reasonably use makes it very difficult to over-eat on. This would be a difficult meal plan to use to gain significant weight.

Would you be willing to re-run that with SQL Server 2016? A Dev license is free, and there's been a lot of relational engine optimization since 2012. I'd be curious to see what the latest release can do compared to Postgres'

SQL Server also comes with SSAS, if we're talking analytics. There's the very mature MDX-based Multidimensional mode, and a heavily optimized columnstore engine with the DAX-based Tabular mode. For analytical workloads, SQL is oft

Check Power Pivot if you just want an Excel interface to lots of data. I posted elsewhere in this thread about it, but the fun demo is to load up a dataset with a largest table of several hundred million rows. This is still quite snappy on
