This may be true. I took a break for a while, but have been back at it with the primary motivation to... cheat and scheme. To start with, I've been scraping the auction house data, hoping to analyze the best pricing strategies and/or quic

out of curiosity (not obsessed), does the losing page say "Sold Out" in red letters like mine does?

You're right, the Note II in store was pretty good, but with its size the density was slightly less pleasant. I think that'll be more of a personal preference thing.

It's weird how with all the adulation over the GSIII, no one dings the screen. The quality hit is pretty noticeable in an AT&T store. I wandered back and forth from iPhone, Lumia, etc, and had also checked out the RAZR HD earlier that

This is already happening, in a sense. Elite colleges face extreme pressure to keep their 4 and 6y graduation rate up, in part because successful parents are turned off by sending their kids to schools for outrageous tuition only for them

It's worse than this: the state of battery life reporting is abominable. TheVerge says "Battery life was also top notch", with anecdots of 10h lifetime, while Engadget (and Anandtech[1]) say it's at the bottom of the barrel. At least I'm p

This and the cloud explanation: they just aren't reasonable. The real reason why this is happening is because OEM's need something to differentiate within their own line so that they can practice optimal price discrimination. Given that th

From my experience cheating, it would help to restrict words to 7 letters. Then the blocking rules would be more strategic, and at least the AI would be more fun to make.

Agreed, but that's not what happens to the code in this article -- if you copy+paste it appears as though you are going to www.google.com So it seems... Google could learn a thing or two; or maybe they decided not to be evil.

Citation? AFAIK this is just Apple's claim, not a real test: http://www.macrumors.com/2012/09/26/iphone-battery-life-grea... I love how Apple locks down apps, but dislike how many taps it takes to toggle LTE.

Not true, for example I've been ruining the game for the past couple hours with a quick (greedy) AI. Play a couple rounds with words like 'tetrasyllabics', where you completely reverse their blocks, and people just give up :( Actually, I'm

That review was pure cotton candy -- published the day before the device was released, with a few other similar embargoed pieces [1]. I was convinced that he just wanted to keep getting scoops. I pre-ordered it and got it ASAP, and like it

I think "don't yet know for sure what's happening" is a bit misleading to the casual reader. If they're actually being honest it's more like: don't know that anything "special" is happening. Frankly, their devices just aren't quantum compu

It's not just IQ, but one of 200 different tests [1]. For example, if you score an 800 on the math portion of the SAT, you're in. [1] http://www.us.mensa.org/join/testscores/qualifyingscorefaq/

Naively, I get 3 exabytes. (50^10 + smaller terms) * 256 bits (SHA256 size) Number of hashes * size of hash to store. Obviously this isn't how it's actually done. The best page I found describing the process is: http://www.freerainbowtabl

I find it interesting that everyone is talking about the screen size instead of the screen technology. The CNET review[1] and I'm sure others often show them side by side with the iPhone 5 brighter! , when of course it's like the before/a

I went to one of his book talks, and it was really exciting to hear about. I think he mentioned how it was a one-time rise to stardom, and put me onto the glacial blog[1] that is Climb For Memory, by the guy who has won it for the past cou

Doug Natelson at Nanoscale Views is a physicist who works with nano stuff, and I expected him to comment[1] on this. Basically he said it looks interesting but isn't really proof. Which fits with my viewpoint, where I discount anything re

I'm glad the zines are enjoying writing about this $200 difference. I'm sure they won't mind writing about how it disappeared when the mini is finally launched. Apple can charge whatever it wants for the new ipad until the HD ships, and t
