Thanks to SwellJoe for setting it out straight, really why I bothered posting this - so slashdotters could have an inside opinion on the process. Yes they are angry sheep, but they are our geek brethren. http://slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid

Yeah I make orthodontic software and just finished a prototype 3d scanner (structured light style thing for those in the know). That sort of my day job, although I own a 1/3 of the business. I really want to do some web2.0 ideas I've got on

It won't be long before they bundle it with IE and then start adding features that only work with IE. I don't think microsoft has the patience to do it any other way. Also it's now becoming clear why microsoft was never interested in putti

It's an interesting attitude but I think she's wrong. A big company is already serving billions of customers so they have a lot to lose. If a big company launches a service and its not an immediate success people will attack the brand. Also

Of course the other side of that is the fairly common situation where someone in the team of 5 is doing 5x the work for 1x salary, and management has no idea until months (if ever) after they leave...

As someone who did a PhD in a creative kind of computer science field and felt frustrated by the success of those who choose more trodden PhD paths - I was going to agree with this. But in start-ups as well as PhDs success is defined by the
