Our company matches what you describe to a T. We have some small web servers/services, but none under any significant load. No need to scale dynamically, yet we use Docker (with Swarm) on prem for like 3 worker nodes. So much complexit

The F-14 was never tasked with CONUS defense, that was part of the Chair Forces responsibility. The F-14 was designed to prevent missile carrying bombers from attacking the carrier task force.

I think some Reserve Marine squadrons were operating them up until 1992, so it seems plausible that they were in use at that time.

Can the F/A-18 do BARCAP? Engage cruise missile carrying aircraft at range? The F-14 was an excellent aircraft when using the F-110 engines. The TF-30s were terrible. Cheney just didn't trust NAVAIR to develop any aircraft (see th

The F-14 was the alternative to the aborted F-111B. This was originally intended to carry the Phoenix and AN/AWG-9. Although it would have been cool, the YF-12 would have difficulty with a catapult launch.

If you follow @kamilkazani, he talks about how the fall of the USSR crippled Russia's manufacturing ability; without Western help, it's toast.

The US has no naval presence in Taiwan. USN ships might do port visits, but they have no basing rights. They will periodically transit the Straits on Freedom of Navigation (FON) exercises. The closest USN base is in Yokohama Japan.

The PRC doesn't "need" Taiwan, either in a geographic sense or in an industrial capacity. This is purely a regime legitimacy test; the presence of non-communist Chinese right off the coast is a rebuke of the PRC. It's a

He would have been 17 at Pearl Harbor. IIRC, the average age of a US soldier in WW2 was around 26. Either way, he was 75 in 1989, so his age when the US entered WW2 was 27, roughly matching the demographics.

A bit off on his age in 1989; he was actually 75. Otherwise he would have been pretty young to have served in WW2.

Well, MacBooks are the majority of Macs sold. 1Q of 2022, Apple sold roughly 3 million Macs. Figure an average of $1000 per Mac (which is low, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ), that's almost $3B. Now Apple no longer breaks out product sales, so th
