Once I got laid off via 1:1 call. Once I got laid off via a mass call with HR, they canned my entire department at once (300+ people). Once I got laid off via bulk bcc'd email because I was on vacation and missed the last-minute mass c

It would be nice to have a way to submit museums. I'm thinking of https://www.umbrellacovermuseum.org/

I don't know about Standard Chartered specifically, but I remember one of the big US banks (I forget which one. JPMC or Goldman Sachs, probably - it was a while ago) telling us that they had more developers than Microsoft. Don't s

As someone who knows barely enough to be dangerous, I like this. I'm sure it leaves enough out to make most experts angry, but it makes a lot of sense to me.

LDP gave us BGP-free cores. Don't underestimate how much that changed the game in large networks. BGP converged faster and core routers didn't need to do anywhere near as much. SR is a better way to do that now and LDP/IGP s

Yeah, for sure. I'm not saying FRR was always the right answer for all questions, but for a good decade or more it was a pretty solid choice, and particularly with auto-tunnel, it was easy to do. RSVP was far too complex a hammer for j

I always broke MPLS-TE into two categories - traffic engineering for bandwidth, and fast reroute (FRR). Bandwidth engineering, like Bruce said, was religion for some people and anathema for others. It saved at least one company from bankru

I haven't done anything with Perl since 4.036 in the late 90s, so I haven't kept up with all the Raku stuff. From that outsider perspective my first reaction to this was "how many languages are they going to turn Perl into?&

Yeah. Not everyone who thinks they have a good idea has one, and the way this is structured it's very, very time-consuming to defeat a legitimately bad proposal. It feels a lot like when a conspiracy theorist says "Bildenberg cab

Sure, and you can do BYOIP with cloud providers or CDNs. But then those IPs are trivial to block, and although I've never tried it, I suspect AWS GA isn't set up to constantly rotate IP addresses.

I can think of three reasons: 1. ad blockers are still so niche that it's not worth it to them 2. static IP addresses are dead-simple to block in a router or (probably? not a browser coder) in a browser plugin 3. static IP addresse

Sure, but I think you have some survivor bias here. How many people turned out some software that they thought people needed but which nobody did? I don't have any examples at hand but it's gotta be a whole lot.
