I, at least, would prefer you link the article directly instead of making it a pseudo-ask HN. That said... Overall, I think it's pretty neat and not too far off what I've been thinking about doing for a in-browser templating language. I thi

YUI3 is MUCH smaller than YUI2. The rewrite was mostly about addressing this exact issue though everything-in-a-closure and pervasive query API were also major reasons. They basically took a fair number of the modules in YUI2 and sliced the

The third slide is out of date. 1.30 removed support for promises. All previously promised-based functions now take a callback parameter as their last argument instead, so the slide would be written: posix.rename("/tmp/hello", "/tmp/w

There are a couple other parser generators for JS: * http://zaa.ch/2k - Jison * http://inimino.org/~inimino/blog/peg_first_release - another Packrat (has an es5 parser as an example) Plus a few more that work but produce generated code

The guys over at Humanized (now at mozilla) did this for plain javascript about two years ago, FWIW. It's not quite as awesome when you don't have a sweet parser DSL.

If you know about vim text objects and f/t motion, there isn't much that paredit mode can do that vim text objects don't. E.g f) is the equivalent to paredit-forward while ci( is 'replace contents of s-expr' and da[ would be 'delete vector'

I'd actually say that Leo is horrible except for the one feature that makes it amazing (outlines). I find myself wanting to implement outlines in Vim but knowing I never will.

Since coffeescript was mentioned, the Ruby andand library is also frequently mentioned when this comes up. (I only ruby for Rake).

No more than you can protect an image in a page from being downloaded. e.g. you could escape the URL or check referrers, but that's not really going to stop anybody.

Do not write your own library from scratch. It sounds a whole lot easier than it is since most of the work in writing the library isn't the actual code writing but rather getting it tested and debugged in all the variants of all the browser

It's a fairly strange list mostly because it seems the guy doesn't do a lot of programming. The whole 'only focus on one thing' is pretty well known for writing, which is why the vairous writeroom clones exist. I've always felt that vim was

I'll agree with this. Pylons is a win when: 1. You need SQLAlchemy. 2. You're not really leveraging the Django admin. 3. You don't need anything in pinax or the rest of the django apps. I actually prefer the various wsgi options over Django

Having poked around the source as part of implementing full vim support, I believe that nodes.coffee [1] exercises every single coffeescript feature except splats and js escaping, so that might be interesting to people as well even if it is

The server side javascript guys are more interested in templating than most client side and all server side templating engines will run in the browser. Here's a pair of discussions on the subject: http://groups.google.com/group/commonjs/br

Since we're discussing this, is there any equivalent to git rebase --interactive? Coming from darcs to git (I add -p more or less exclusively), I didn't think I'd use rebase much but commit reordering/squashing has turned out to be very use

I split 75/25% client/server (Python/Pylons/Django) and find the server stuff easier. The thing about doing server development is that once it's working, it's working. On the client side, once you get it working you're only halfway there un
