No, they seem to be saying that a Craigslist poster may, if they choose, license their own post under CC-BY-SA. Why anyone would bother to do that is beyond me. And I'm not convinced it's true given that the terms of use, last updated in Fe

Amusingly, there is a business called Jamcracker: http://www.jamcracker.com/ and, what's more, the copyright at the bottom of their website says 1999-2012. I wonder if the naming firm still sold the name after this article!

I'm completely confused by the second sentence here: "Unfortunately, for one reason and another, despite a delay for a fourth release candidate, there are still some circumstances where an upgrade will not re-register some built-in extensio

They don't do delayed payments, only immediate purchases. So that doesn't work with a crowdfunding "pledge" model.

Weird, I might have to try it again sometime. I definitely remember thinking Unity's performance was horrible, but some of that may be confirmation bias (I expected going in that XFCE would be lighter than other options). And I was unaware

I love the idea of Facebook being "just an XMPP server". Even though I knew they use XMPP for Facebook chat, I never thought about it that way.

You might have a different definition of "completely unusable" from mine, but have you ever compared XFCE and Unity on the same machine? I'm accustomed to a snappy DE. I don't expect to wait 30 seconds+ for the most basic desktop to show up

Thanks for the reply. I see what you mean and agree there is some difference. Let me put it this way: I would feel confident my Wuala backup is secure from my boss or ex-girlfriend, but not from a hostile government. If I were an activist

On the other hand, if you're NOT installing from a single CD (which, by your hypothesis, most people aren't), then it really makes no difference what's the default desktop on Debian. It's easy to install whatever you want.

Absolutely. I've been on Xubuntu (Ubuntu with XFCE) for several years, but I tried out stock Ubuntu on my netbook a few months ago — just to see the Unity desktop firsthand. This is a cheapo Dell netbook from 2009, 1024x600 resolution. Unit

I think ToS;DR is less nerdy. "Grok" makes me visualize gray-bearded Unix programmers, but young internet-savvy people of all stripes know what TL;DR means. Didn't 4chan popularize that abbreviation?

No. I'd love to try out Diaspora but I signed up for an invite months ago and haven't heard anything from them. So it's not just a marketing problem, they're clearly not ready for mass use yet.

Remember, if you're selling ad space, the advertiser is the customer. The user is the product. Nitpicky, but important. Your explanation works if you replace "customers" with "users".

Wow, with the "exclusive"s, that is extremely anticompetitive language; they are forbidding you from posting the same job ad (your own ad that you wrote!) on both Craigslist and a competing site. I hope it's not enforceable, but I'm still s

PadMapper seems to be on relatively solid legal ground here. They are only copying facts (address, price, contact info) and the post title (which is likely too short to qualify for copyright). And as they aren't accessing Craigslist directl

This is very cool, but I was surprised to see what seems like an obvious bug in your code. In the buzzer() function, it looks like you were trying to use "buzz_prev" to optimize away extra writes of 0 when no magnetic field is detected. How

It's not binary - look at the argument to buzzer() in the code. It's clearly programmed to vibrate the buzzer more when a stronger magnetic field is detected.
